Abstract

Depo-Provera
Depo-Provera is a birth control that has been used for many things in the past years. It is mainly used on women as a contraceptive. Depo-Provera is a synthetic derivate of progesterone administered as an acetate salt with anti-estrogenic activity. This is an injected drug. This medicine/drug also causes change in the cervical mucus and urine lining, making it much harder for sperm to travel up to the uterus, and fertilize an egg. A person would have to inject this curtain drug every three months to keep it working. If you miss a month you won’t be protected. As good as the sound this drug has its pros and con. This might sound wonderful but it has lots of side effect, it can cause the loss of bone material density.

What is Depo-Provera?
Depo-Provera is a type of birth control. Depo-Provera is an injectable medication that prevents pregnancy for three months. It’s an injection that has to be done every three months. If you would still like the protection of Depo-Provera. Depo-Provera is a drug that is very similar to progesterone. Progesterone is a hormone that is normally created by the ovaries themselves every month. The reason for this to get their menstrual cycle going. Depo-Provera is not a barrier method. So yes, the patient would have use a condom to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases.

How does it work?
Depo-Provera works by preventing pregnancy with the prevention of ovulation for the three months. Its works like this, if your ovaries do not release any eggs then you are very unlikely to get pregnant. This medicine is a shot that should be given to the patient in their buttock or their upper arm. The way it would be more efficient is if you get the first shot given to you within five days of the beginning of you menstrual cycle.

Is it effective?
Depo-Provera is a very effective, is as effective as tubal legation. In addition, it is more effective at preventing pregnant than several of the others on the market. These methods include birth control pills they are not as effective. If you miss a pill the can ruin everything. The other method that is not as good is the method of using the condoms, they could pop or anything else. The only thing that Depo-Provera does not do it protect against sexually transmitted diseases. As shown in this chart above.

When was it introduced?
Depo-Provera was first introduced in 1967, this is when the largest test on humans was conducted. This test was conducted for eleven years. They tested on over 13,000 people. 50 percent of the tested were Black women with very low income and from rural surroundings. Which was that they most likely needed the money, and had nothing else to do. From these test and trials, many women got cancer and or died from cancer or other things. Many died during the testing. The man in charge (Robert Hatcher) of the experiment was not taking note of any of the people dying. He was keeping it quiet and to himself. Even though he knew it was mandatory for him to report the results to the FDA so this drug can be approved. These trials caused 13,000 humans deaths. Who can use Depo-Provera?
Most women can use Depo- Provera. Excluding and not recommend for women who have irregular or unexplained vaginal bleeding, liver disease, breast cancer and or blood clots. Mostly recommend for women under the age of 40. After a certain age, it could be harmful for the body. Like the use of any other birth control drug. Side Effects
