The poem demonstrated the idea on how to create and follow your own path without letting anyone influence it. In the poem Dickinson talks about a soul choosing its own society which could mean anything from friends to loved ones. The “Soul” which represents the reader makes a critical decision where they have to choose 1 society (path) among many as shown in Stanza 1 line 1. In addition the soul encounters many obstacles throughout the poem which were trying to influence the reader's decision such as from stanza 2 lines 3 and 4 “Unmoved — an Emperor be kneeling Upon her Mat — “ this showed how the emperor was trying to make the reader choose a different path compared to what they chose. Furthermore also in the quote there is a phrase before “an emperor” which is “Unmoved” which represents the soul (reader) not giving in to the influence but still following their own path. In stanza 1 Line 1-3 “The Soul selects her own Society — Then — shuts the Door — To her divine Majority —” it shows how the soul (reader) selects their own path to success and then shuts themselves off (Shuts the Door” from the rest of the important individuals (Divine Majority). Moreover, this showed me that you should not listen to anyone else about something you want to do because they can ruin it
