The Role Of Dreams In Ancient Egypt
The first documentation of dreams in Ancient Egypt was during 2000 B.C.E. The Egyptians recorded their dreams in hieroglyphics and on papyrus. An individuals ability to have vivid or significant dreams was important to the Egyptians. The people with particular vivid and significant dreams were believed to be blessed and were considered special. The dreams of the Pharaohs attracted the most attention, because they were seen as gods themselves. Given their status, it seemed perfectly natural that the gods wanted to deliver important messages in the Pharaohs’ dreams.
The Egyptians built temples devoted to dreaming. Dream interpreters lived in these temples. The ancient Egyptians respected dream interpreters and they were seen as divinely gifted.
