The Rise And Fall Of Odysseus In Homer's Odyssey

One of the biggest examples of Odysseus making a decision where his group was put in a bad situation, is when he waited for the Cyclops, Polyphemus to return back to his cave. His group could have stolen Polyphemus and left the island, but Odysseus made the call that they would wait for the owner of the home to return and ask him if they could have some of his food. However, Polyphemus was not a friendly cyclops saying, “... and I entertain no guests unless it pleases me…” (Homer 8). Odysseus waiting for the Cyclops, led to the result of six men of Odysseus getting eaten by the cyclops. If Odysseus just stole the food from Polyphemus no men would have been killed.
