The Pros And Cons Of The Industrial Revolution

Imagine a time where walking to town took hours or even days. Thanks to the Industrial Revolution it now only takes minutes. During the 1700 and 1800s England had changed drastically because of the Industrial Revolution. While this time period was mostly beneficial, there were however a few downsides. For example, Great Britain's environment became polluted from all the machines and many workers including children were killed by dangerous jobs. On the bright side, the Industrial Revolution was a time things were no longer powered by man but by machine instead. Clothes were produced faster and with better quality, travelling became a relatively easy task instead of a near impossible one and food was much more abundant than before. Due to the tremendous advancements of machinery, the Industrial Revolution changed the lives of many for the better.
For instance, the villages were not kept as tidy as they could have been. The streets of England were “usually unpaved” and “full of holes” (Engels). While the roads were not maintenanced properly, spending money on the factories in order to finance mass productions of goods was more essential to the citizens of England. It not only put more cash in England's pocket but created an overall easier lifestyle for people. An additional negative during the Industrial Revolution was some children died at a young age. In the factories “out of the nearly 3000 children employed… only fourteen have died” (SBC) in the time span of 12 years. It is no doubt, the fourteen children who passed away was certainly a tragedy, but many may assume it was from the machines in the factory. An unpreventable illness or physical condition from birth might also have been the cause of the fourteen deaths. Being such a small number of deaths the positives certainly outweighed the negatives of the Industrial
