The Pros And Cons Of Medical Marijuana
Medical Marijuana is a very controversial topic in today’s time. Many people have their own different opinions on medical marijuana and if it should be used as a medical treatment. Medical marijuana is defined as using any part of the marijuana plant as a treatment for health problems. It is to be used to help relieve symptoms, not for the high. In this essay, I am going to discuss the pros and cons of medical marijuana and why I believe it should be used as a medical treatment. Medical marijuana is used to treat pain, nausea, side effects from other treatments, and a variety of diseases. It is made from the dried leaves and bud of the Cannabis sativa plant. Medical marijuana has been effective in treating many different side effects from a variety of diseases and disorders. The treatments medicinal marijuana has been used for include: ALS, Anorexia due to AIDS or HIV, chronic pain, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, seizures, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms, Tourette’s syndrome, for side effects due to cancer treatment, pain, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and terminal illness. Medical marijuana has helped many people suffering from Parkinson’s disease and seizures. Per recent research, certain marijuana extract has shown evidence to kill certain cancer cells. Regarding cancer, it has been proven in recent studied that medical marijuana has shown evidence to slow down the process of cancer. For terminally and seriously ill people, medical marijuana is the only drug to help with their pain throughout their illness. Medical marijuana treats their symptoms without causing serious side effects. Medical marijuana has been proven to benefit multiple diseases, when other drugs cannot treat the symptoms. Many people are worried about the side effects and addiction concerning medical marijuana. Most drugs, especially narcotics, have severe side effects and are addicting. These drugs are legal across the world and is FDA approved in the United States. Any drug used as treatment has some type of side effect. Medical marijuana is no different. I believe, with more research, medical marijuana can be used for better treatment for severely ill people. Medical marijuana can be a better alternative to harsh (FDA approved) medications. Some narcotics such as Hydrocodone, Valium, Xanax, OxyContin, and many others can alter your cognitive abilities and short term memory. In my opinion, narcotics are more harmful than medical marijuana. I believe that it should legalized and FDA approved. Medical marijuana can be used for a variety of diseases and sicknesses. It is multi-purposeful. I truly believe it can help more people than other medications used
