The Pros And Cons Of Government Censorship
Censorship is the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.With how easily people get access information nowadays we run into a problem of what can be censored and how much censorship is too much censorship. The side of the argument that is pro censorship is that it helps to prevent conflict, it avoids children being exposed ,and it helps to control panic and fear. The con side the of the argument is that it can promote negative agendas,violates the rights of citizens, and it can be used to inflict certain morals.By having the government censor the internet and the media you get problems like propaganda, it can hinder creativity, and the government can modified the truth for their own benefit.Therefore the government shouldn't be allowed to censor the internet and the media. …show more content…
To best understand how censorship works in state-controlled countries such as China the people must look at the press. Journalists can be classified “self-censoring” because they choose to keep information from the people, or being “censored” by the state or political group which prevents certain information from getting to the people. This can cause propaganda to spread. Propaganda can be done for numerous reason such as the improvement of the country, but it is or does either improve or harm the nation depending upon how it is carried out. “Good” or “bad” here can mean morally good and bad as well as good and bad with respect to intentions. The Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution are two examples of these intentions and moral decisions. When the government starts to control that information you get places like North Korea and Nazi Germany who think what they are doing is right because of the government portrays that the whole world is against
