The Pros And Cons Of Betsy Devos
While I can not attended this event because I am away at school I urge all people who are in the Chicago-land area to consider attending. Betsy DeVos is Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education. Her goal is to use taxpayers money to fund charter schools and vouchers for private/religious schooling. We have seen in the past that vouchers (while a good idea in theory) do not work. As for using taxpayers money to fund religious schooling—- it is a direct violation of separation of church and state. DeVos has “cloaked” her ideas of privatization of the education system by saying that parents should “choice” where their children go to school—this is a luxury not all families will get. It is my belief that DeVos will cause great damage to public

After coding all the candidates of the Republican National Debate, Governor Kasich stood out because his number of acclaims varied greatly from the number of times he attacked and defended himself during the debates. This is most likely due to the fact that his standing was last amongst all the candidates taking part in the debate. Because he held the lowest standing amongst all the candidates, many of the candidates did not bother to attack him so he did not need to defend himself as often as the others. He did not attack his opponents because his focus needed to be in bringing himself up in the ranks as opposed to just bringing the others down. According to Benoit's Functional Theory, this is because attacks can often times create an undesirable impression that the candidate is reactive rather than proactive (Glantz, 277, 2013).…

The first point she makes is about DeVos being inexperienced. She says that DeVos did not “sent her kids to public school”. While this is true, it can be seen as a red herring. DeVos not having kids in public schools is irrelevant to her qualifications. The author includes this to paint DeVos as someone who is disconnected from the average American who sends their kid to public school. While it may be effective in generating an emotional response, it is not needed under this point of Partelow’s argument.…

What would you do if the government denied your rights, threatened to harm your land, and threatened your primary source of water? Would you let them get away with it, or would you fight for what is right? The Dakota Access Pipeline is said to be “the safest and most environmentally sensitive way to transport crude oil from domestic wells to American consumers” (Dakota Access Pipeline Facts). It’s a pipeline that was built under Lake Oahe, which is located upstream of the Sioux tribes’ land. It would also would save a lot of money and energy to transfer oil across the nation. The Dakota Access Pipeline should have been stopped because the Sioux tribes have rights, the pipeline could damage the environment, and the government needs to care…

In my opinion, I believe that Affirmative Action was possibly essential when it was originally enacted. While the harm done as a consequence of slavery and prejudice has not completely been conquer, I think we have reach a position of equal opportunity in this country where the accidental cost of ongoing affirmative action policies outweigh any advantage that they could realize. Consequently I am not in kindness of continued affirmative action policies but in its place hold up equal opportunity…

The announcement of Betsy DeVos to serve as commencement speaker at Bethune-Cookman University aroused many emotions. Understandably, a university president should be able to invite the U.S. Secretary of Education to speak to their students on graduation day, but this is different. This is beyond political ideology or educational philosophy.…

If the Keystone XL pipeline is built, thousands of creatures may relocate or die because of it. The Keystone pipeline is a real pipeline that will transport thousands of gallons of crude tar sands oil a day from Canada to the southern United States. It may leak and cause the environment to be hurt. Many people believe that it will benefit the United States and Canada in many ways, but many people believe the other side of it and think it should not be built because of the risks. It has many benefits, but there is too much of a risk involved in the building of the keystone pipeline. The pipeline should not be built because it is bad for the environment, bad for the economy, and may go through native lands.…

Trump took the Presidential race by a storm instantly gaining supporters from across the nation. However, his strategy was like no other presidential candidate in history. Fearless and bold, President Trump fueled the racism and sexism of America becoming the talk of every community. Yet, some despised him hypocrisy, much more rejoiced his authenticity. He was not a politician nor did he spend decades working in Washington, but he a blatantly honest billionaire who had conquered the business world. Unfortunate for Trump, since his term began in January, he has finally realized that he needs actual political knowledge to govern the nation, a thought that had never crossed his mind. Due to his lack of common sense and education, Trump has unraveled…

This is amazing because it shows that Eva Moskowitz cares about not just the education of her own students but is also attempting to spread the resources and allow others to benefit and grow from her educational methods. She believes more high quality options need to be there for students because there are huge amounts of students not getting the quality education they need and there are somewhere near 50,000 students stuck on charter school waiting lists and they won't all get in. Eva Moskowitz' Charter School System is reimagining the way K-12 public education is being taught and is achieving excellent results for her…

As a child growing up, I've always aspired to reach every goal that I had, and speak my mind when I have something that is needed to be said. Within the past two to three years I have learned to grow out of my shell and speak up with love, against hatred. But I've come to realize that leaders that we have in our country are a concern to me and to many other children who are growing up in the United States. Under the current administration, I have began to learn what its like to be a leader and what to do and what not to do. President Trump and his administration, more specifically Betsy DeVos, have concerned many students and parents around the country. DeVos, her ideas for Education reform, and her (and Trump's) lack of leadership among our country have become a concern for many teens and young adults in America.…

The new president and the government officials of America should be for immigration. Why should the government even be pro immigration you may be asking? Well the reason why is the following…...these humble, hard-working, and caring people leave their countries due to corruption, poverty, or bad influences. Immigrants are not criminals or terrorists even though they do cross the U.S border and enter the U.S illegally(Brooks 34-38), also immigrants are not here take jobs!!!! They actually do the jobs that others don’t want to take and fill those jobs in (meaning the ones with low wages). These people immigrate to the U.S for a better life for them and for their families and work hard each and every day to earn money to maintain their families.…

Since the election will start in 2016 the most common question that many people have been asking is, who’s the right person that deserves our votes? And in many previous years there was presidents who did not deserve their chair and that what we do not want it to happen again. They say read history in order to avoid falling in the same mistake, for example Dick Cheney screwed America’s political relationship with other countries. He was under Iraq occupation and further escapades. On the other hand, George Washington who was one of the best presidents of the united state, he made a lot of effort to make America a better place for citizens by leading America to victory moreover, Washington personifies what a president should be. For that People of America should choose wisely because we don’t want History to repeat itself. On other words, if there was a bad leader in the past this should not be repeated in America’s future. In addition, they say a leader has the power to either build a country or destroy it completely.…

When competition is introduced into the market the players then preform at a higher level. The U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos is the strongest advocate for the vouchers and alternate schools of choice system. She has given her own money in her home state before she became the secretary to help further the cause. (Maxwell) there is a strong belief that if given the freedom to choose the school a child attends, it will open educational opportunity never afforded to some of the children in our society. The voucher system works by giving each child a set amount to use towards tuition to any school they choose, opening the possibility for some children to attend private schools they would not have had the money to pay tuition on in the past. The other options would be; magnet, charter,…
