First, it must be understood how YouTube has become a part of today’s society. Wesch marks the “Numa Numa” video as the mark of the start of YouTube. This video gets popular in Italy. From Italy it goes to Europe in general, after this video heads to Japan and somehow lands itself on a computer in a suburb of New Jersey. According to Wesch, most of the videos on YouTube are homemade and intended for less than 100 people; however, he also states almost 100,000 of the 200,000 videos on Youtube are addressed to a YouTube community. This community can range from anyone to anywhere. Wesch references Robert Putman, author of “Bowling Alone: America’s Declining Social Capital”, who’s idea is that community has been lost over time. Over time, locally owned mom and pop grocery stores turn into Wal-Mart super stores on every corner. The face to face communications has been lost over the years, but people are starting to replace it with social media online.…
A. Attention Getter: How many of you have ever said, “Google it!” or “look it up on YouTube”? I’m sure you’ve all said it more times than you can count, but imagine a world where neither site exists. No Google, no YouTube--weird, right? Now, imagine the Internet—one of the United State’s most robust and growing industries, without Wikipedia, Google, Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube—even harder to fathom.…
As mentioned before, students are not able to learn efficiently with all of the internet filters. Youtube has many educational videos on various subjects, however in most schools…
In “Little Brother is Watching” Eric Gall talks about the positive and negative effects of the website YouTube. He starts off by talking about Michael Richards, Kramer from the sitcom Seinfeld, and how he was filmed when he had a racial meltdown towards an audience member which was uploaded to YouTube for the world to see. Students upload videos of their teachers “losing it” in class and also uploading it to YouTube. Gall does state good causes such as an engineer for the US Coast Guard and how he made a home video and put it on YouTube showing serious security flaws. With that video being uploaded to YouTube, the US Congress, the Navy, as well as the media helped him advance and defended his case.…

There are even some web filters in schools that don’t allow the students to watch videos on YouTube. For some classes you need to be able to have access to that site to watch a video. Some restrictions stay on even after school hours, even if the restrictions get turned off after school hours that still doesn’t let the students do their work during the school day. Web filters are not a good thing. If a student does not do his class work and chooses to watch non educational videos or play non educational computer games, that is solely their choice. It is up to the student to keep track of their school work. That is why web restrictions are not a good thing, they don’t let the students take responsibility for their tasks, they just get it handed to them, and that is not how the real world works. According to Greg Toppo, teaching with social media shows students how to use the platforms responsibly. By opening up the sites for recreational use the students are allowed to visit the sites just like they would be able to outside the…

Google’s original stock price on the date of their IPO was $85, fast forward eight years and the stock currently trades at $761.78. Steps such as the acquisition of YouTube in 2006, the introduction of the Android in 2008, their Google TV initiative, and the continuing development and sophistication of Google Apps, have all contributed to this almost 800% appreciation. While all of these strategic maneuvers have been more than satisfying for investors’ pockets, the bulk of Google’s earnings remain in advertising. In 2009, 96.78% of Google’s total revenue came from advertising, over half of which were ads outside the United States.…
Video content of all forms permeates our everyday life. It has the power to inform, educate, entertain and better our society. But it also can expose children to the coarser side of human nature and affect their development in ways we still do not fully understand. And as television programming and video games increasingly migrate to mobile devices and new distribution platforms, parents have even less control over what their children see. These changes in technology could amplify the impact of violent content on our society's most vulnerable members — a very disturbing…

Personally, I believe that TV is educational. Firstly, there are so many different shows where students show their own knowledge. Watching these programs might help people to develop their knowledge and maybe encourage students to study harder to know everything that the participants know on these shows.…
While Google is still the number one search engine and a developer of popular applications, historically the rise and fall of internet organizations can be rapid. The repeat of a dot.com failure similar to 2000 and another economic collapse can leave even the most innovative internet company vulnerable, particularly when revenue relies on a healthy economy and the ability to give value for time and money.…
When organizations decide it is time to make change, there are many options available to them depending upon their situation. After the sale of YouTube to Google in 2006, the company underwent some restructuring in an effort to earn more profits. They used a method that is referred to as fine tuning in order to create change. They refined some policies and methods as well as aligned themselves with high end content providers and provided users with a better add generating process. According to chargify.com "YouTube embarked on an aggressive campaign to link partnership deals with premium content providers including NBC, ABC and CBS."…
