The Pearl Argumentative Essay
The Pearl Argument Paper The Pearl, by John Steinbeck, is about a man named Kino, and his wife Juana, and their baby named Coyotito. When Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion the doctor refuses to help the baby until he gets a payment. So Juana and Kino go search for a payment that will persuade the doctor to help their baby. When searching for a payment they find a great pearl that changes their lives forever. The pearl cause Kino to kill, fight, have greed, and other horrible things. So Kino’s discovery of that pearl was a stroke of bad luck. Kino’s pearl was a stroke of bad luck because people who wanted his fortune would do anything to get his fortune, even if it goes to the extremes. For example after Kino’s visit with the doctor a mysterious man came and attacked Kino to get the pearl. “Kino held his breath to listen, and he knew whatever dark thing was in his house was holding its breath too, to listen” (37). This represents bad luck because through the pearl, trouble has come on the family. An evil person is in their house to steal the pearl and this is not the only …show more content…
Others may not agree with the pearl being evil due to the fact that the pearl would have made Kino and his family rich enough to do the things they had always wanted to do if they would have been able to sell the pearl. Even though this is true it eventually brought bad luck. The riches made Kino very greedy and would not give up his fortune. “No one shall take our great fortune from us” (57). Another reason others may not agree with the pearl being bad luck is due to the fact that when Kino had the pearl he was immediately very popular in the town.
