The Past In The Lion King

In Walt Disney movie, The Lion King teaches the importance of letting go of the past. This lesson is taught through the wise old man, immortality and the heroes. From these themes you learn not to worry, to live in the present not the past and to remember who you are. In the events leading up to Simba near dead in the desert, he is told by Scar that Mufasa’s death is his fault. Simba believes him and he runs away because he does not know what else to do. Confused, alone and hurt he has no one to turn to until Pumbaa and Timon stumble upon him. Simba ran away from Pride Rock thinking that it would make everything better. Simba’s trusty companions, Timon and Pumbaa, teach Simba that “You Gotta Put Your Behind In the Past” – Pumbaa, meaning one has to put their past behind them in order to move forward. They also teach him “hakuna matata” meaning no worries and they help replace his worries with happiness and love. Although Simba should not worry about the past he should not run from his past either.
But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.” Running from the past only temporarily fixes things but it keeps haunting you. At some point you have to build up the courage to face it and corrects things. Only then will you learn from it and move on without worrying. In a quote by Johnny Cash it quotes, ““You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” The past should not be brought up unless it is used to learn from
