The Mirabal Sisters

Today, the Mirabal Sisters are honored and recognized as heroines in the Dominican Republic and in parts of the world. They are symbols of courage, love, and sacrifice. The Mirabal sisters were known for their courageous acts. Their names were Patria, Minerva, Maria Teresa, and Dede. The eldest three Patria, Minerva, and Maria Teresa were the ones who were involved in the protest. And were also the ones who ended up getting killed. Rumors say that a cab driver came to their home was hired by Trujillo who was the dictator of the Dominican Republic and asked if they needed a ride and they said yes and ended up at the bottom of a cliff and was found a couples hours later. Before all of those things happened the Mirabal sisters lives weren't so bad. It all started when they …show more content…
So days later the girl Lina ended up getting pregnant and was moved to ha mansion in miami because his wife found out and tried to kill her. Trujillo ended seeing Minerva also but years later. Minerva wasn't like her friend Lina she was much smarter and didn't take anything from anyone. One day, Trujillo invited Minerva's father to his party and on the invitation it clearly stated that Minerva has to come with him. Trujillo tried to make Minerva one of his girlfriends because that's what he does. But that night of the part Trujillo was feeling on Minerva she slapped him and that's when things started getting bad for their family. From that day forward nothing was the same for them. Minerva and other people that didn't like Trujillo tried to steal weapons and betray him but they got caught and half of them got killed. Minerva´s father ended up going to jail for questioning and returned weeks later. He didn't come back the same and ended up dying from a heart attack. Then Minerva and Maria Teresa ended up going to jail for 7 months. When they returned couple weeks later they died from an car

On the surface, Patria is portrayed as the most mundane of the Mirabal sisters because she is very religious and family-oriented character. However, Alvarez uses these characteristics and emphasizes on the events that led up to her loss of faith in order to shape her motivations for joining the revolution. In the beginning of the novel, Patria had no interest in being part of the revolution. However, her views change when surprise invasion when she was on a religious retreat. During the explosions, Patria witnesses a traumatic event when she looks out the window and witnesses the death of a young boy. She relates to this boy as if he were her own son and the terrible scene had a profound impact on her. After this traumatic event, Patria began to doubt God’s ability to protect her and her family.
