The Love of Money is the Root of all Evil

THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OFF ALL EVIL.
St. Paul in the Book of Timothy states that money is the root off all evil. The main reason he gives for this is the fact that in the search for wealth many people lose their faith and their morals to. However Paul’s belief has been considered by many as a false one as other people believe that it is not money that is the root of evil but rather the love of money.
Many a times in real life and in the movies we so love to watch, money has been the motivating factor towards certain evils in our society. Among these are theft, corruption, prostitution, drug peddling, robbery and even murder. If indeed there was no money and people freely shared what they had, then these crimes would be reduced to the bare minimum with the exception of those who are criminally insane, kleptomaniacs or those who suffer from psychological disorders that lead them to commit such obscenities.
In support of my stand that Money is indeed the root of all evil is the case in the Merchant of Venice where the main characters act like monsters due to their love of money. Shylock rejoices when Antonio’s ships are rumored to be wrecked at sea, as he intends to get back at Antonio for making him and other merchants suffer in the past.
Even after being offered twice as much money by Bassanio, he refuses as his main goal is to get back at Antonio for his past transgressions. However Portia along with Nerissa who are disguised as law clerks save the day with their wisdom, forcing Shylock to tire in his quest and agree to converting to Christianity and later allowing Jessica and Lorenzo to inherit half of his wealth upon his death. In this situation we see that such a huge problem, to the extent of involving the law courts is caused by Shylock’s blind love for money which causes him to hate Antonio.
It is also seen time and time again in the bible when individuals such as Ananias and Saphira end up dead in the holy church due to hiding money which they should have tithed and given to the Lord whole-heartedly. Due to their lies which emanates from their love of money. They lose their lives. This has been seen countlessly in the current times where, young girls in all countries and across all communities choose to prostitute and parade themselves in nightclubs in exchange for money and other money-related favors. Priests have turned their churches into venues of money collection; families are in dispute over money!!!!Indeed and without an ounce of doubt. Money is the root of all evil!
