The Leaving Budge Wilson Character Analysis
The character Elizabeth from “The Leaving” by Budge Wilson would likely have conflicting feelings towards Moira’s behavior and attitude in “Saturday Climbing” by W.D. Valgardson. Elizabeth might be impressed with Moira, yet also disappointed and shocked by some of her actions.

The two characters act very differently because of the time period each of them are from. Elizabeth would definitely be impressed with Moira’s independence, as the time Elizabeth comes from, she doesn’t have much independance. She cooked and cleaned as she was told, whilst Moira was able to go to an all-night party after convincing her father to let her stay until 3:00 am.     First, in “The Leaving”, Elizabeth most desirable characteristic is being warm hearted. For example she is looking out for her daughter by making sure she does not freeze on their ten kilometer walk to the train station; because she forgot her wool handkerchief. “”Ferget yer hat,” said Ma. “Here” she took the warm handkerchief from her head and gave it to me. I took it.”” (Wilson108) In this part of the story, she sees past the cold weather and how much she will freeze, she still offers to give Sylvie her hat, because she does not want her to suffer.
