If Hamlet were to leave a bouquet of flowers by Ophelia’s grave after she died it would consist of: aloes, yellow chrysanthemums, dark geraniums, honeysuckles, yellow lilies, marigolds, and peonies. He would give her aloes and marigolds because they are symbolic of grief and despair. Hamlet feels despair and is grieving over the death or suicide of Ophelia. He would give her yellow chrysanthemums which symbolizes slighted love. Hamlet secretly loved Ophelia but could not show it so that his plan would follow action and he would seem insane. At one time it seemed like Ophelia was in love and Hamlet did not reciprocate it. When Hamlet seemed to love Ophelia it was not reciprocated in a good way because she did not want his love after the way…

A Boy's Struggle into Manhood For some people, the idea, or even the chance to be isolated is praised. The feeling of being alone, away from everything else in this world. However, others dread the notion. There is no better place that parallels with isolation more then the Canadian North. This isolation is felt even stronger by a "willowy fifteen-year old" boy who begins his transition into manhood alone. Isolated both physically and emotionally from everything. In the short story, "The Glass Roses" the author, Alden Nowlan provides a setting filled with imagery of a cold, Canadian North winter.…

MLA Essay Critical Lens theories can be found in all kinds of writing, sometimes not obvious to the untrained reader. Take for example, the “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner, where a woman named Emily lives a solitary life, and after her father dies, she is left with no money and nothing but a house and gradually becomes insane. This horrific tale displays three critical lens theories: Psychoanalytic criticism because of her father’s attitude affected her relationships and way of being, Feminism because of Emily’s independent position, and Marxism because of the social roles imposed on Emily by the townspeople throughout her life. Insanity ran in Emily’s family, just as with her great aunt Old Lady Wyatt, but more than just family history…

Hamlet's questioning of Gertrude's sexual relationship with Hamlet's uncle could suggest a possible obsession that Hamlet has for Gertrude. Hamlet's belief that Claudius killed King Hamlet makes Hamlet think that Claudius is turning his mother, and Denmark, into a foul state. This can be seen as Hamlet says QUOTE. In this quote, Hamlet uses garden imagery (In which he also uses in Act 1 Scene 2 as well) to describe the disdain that Hamlet has for Claudius. Hamlet is also seen having guilt for Gertrude as he asks her to repent her wrongdoings and move on. It is here that it can be seen that Hamlet shows compassion for his mother, even though he previously expresses his anger for Gertrude's swift decision to marry so quickly after King Hamlet's…

“Never judge a book by its cover.” This is probably one of the earliest lessons we are taught on the theme appearance versus reality. It means that what appears to be may not actually be what it really is. The theme of appearance vs. reality is one of the major themes in “Daisy Miller: A Study.” One of the most significant scenes in Henry James’s “Daisy Miller: A Study” is the Colosseum scene. This scene is important for a few reasons, one of them being that it is the last time that Daisy Miller and Mr. Winterbourne will see each other. Henry James uses this scene to addresses the theme of appearance vs. reality. The theme is explored in the Colosseum scene through the different characters: Mr. Winterbourne, Daisy Miller, and Mr. Giovanelli. Through the exploration of the theme, Henry James believes that this theme is on a human level and many people try to appear one way when in reality they are really another way.…

That day he shocked everyone who paid attention, but his actions made me bitter.…
