The article that I picked was Taxing Cigarettes…For The Children. In this article, it discussed how certain areas are planning to set a tax on cigarettes to cut the use of cigarette smokers. However, despite the added tax, there have not been a huge difference within cigarette smoking as expected. Instead of the decline of cigarette use, the increase of black market cigarettes has increased. Black market on cigarettes have increased since surrounding states do not have an excess tax and since smokers are not willing to give up smoking, they go and buy their cigarettes where it is cheaper, such as neighboring states (Hodges & Ferguson, 2014).
