The Importance Of Labeling

Human beings are being labeled since the beginning of time. It is human innate desire to label other people, in an attempt to better understand them. Labels are used to describe someone. We can describe them in a positive and negative way. We need to understand that judging someone based on your first meet with them doesn’t describe the deeper reflection of their person hood. No one should be labeled based anything. A person’s race, vocal conversation, the clothes they wear and geographic organs does not define all that he or she is or will be. You shouldn’t just label someone, not just because you’re being judgmental, but because humans are not material like things. They have a heart and they’re no different just like yourself. Martina Navratilova, who is a retired tennis player, once stated “Labels are for file, Labels are for clothing, Labels are not for people.” This is why I disagree with humans labeling each other. Not every Asian is smart and every black person knows how to dance. People are so fast to make assumption based on looks. In our world today a boss might not hire a person because of their race. A girl might be covering hair and she would be considered a Muslim. A black guy might be kicked out of fancy restaurant because the owner might think that he doesn’t have money. Labeling some one based on their color or what they wear, shows racism in you. You’re judging someone without knowing them. Martina Navratilova’s opinion on labeling is something we all need to follow. It’s important to recognize that the people we label as “black”, “poor” and “smart,” seem blacker, poorer and smarter because we’ve labeled them so.
