"The importance of Being Earnest" In the play The importance of Being Earnest there are many things that were important and many things that weren't important. Some of the things in this story such as death and marriage werent really paid as much attention to ,but money was paid very close attention to. In this play Cecily and Gwendolen had money. Therefore Cecily fell in love with Earnest because of his name and the stories Jack told her. This was the main focus in the first act.
She thought, well she has money and that he has this perfect name so they can get married and have a happily ever after ,but what she doesn't know is that the Earnest she knows isn't reality! Gwendolen had money so her aunt Lady Bracknell thought that Earnest was after the money ,but he actually wasn't. Little did Earnest know that Gwendolen wasn't going to marry him unless his real name was Earnest! They didn't pay any mind to Earnest dying which was supposed to be Jacks brother. If the brothers name was supposedly Earnest why didn't they care as much? People act like a death a celebration now a days ,but honestly it's not. No one paid enough attention to what
Earnest is saying and how he acts. Everyone os oblovious to what is currently going on. They also didnt pay attention to who they were marrying at all. Cecily married Algernon and
Gwendolen married Earnest. No one cared about the lies enough to step back. Cecily actually married an imposter who is Algernon. Gwendolen is only marrying Earnest because of his name! They are all living under lies and they are all getting married for the wrong reason except for Earnest because in the end he genuinely loved Gwedolen! In conclusion the play was looking at all the wrong thongs. They looked at the wealth when they should've been looking at the marriages and the deaths those two things are very important in life.
