The Importance Of Alzheimer's Surgery
It all started when I got paralyzed in my waist down. I was 10 years old and have 4 younger brothers. I loved to be around my friends and my family. All of a sudden one day I went to the hospital one morning because my legs were really killing me because I just got done running a marathon. I was very scared my head was full of sweat dripping softly down my face when I say the doctor with a needle. I was very happy when I crossed the finish line in first place with the medal holding out across the instructor's hand and saying

I thought thinking what's the best choice to do. I figure that paralyzing my legs will be better, but i’m also scared kids are gonna tease me at school. I take a look at my mom and dad and they are whispering back and forth about what I should do. I softly ask my mom and dad

“ What do you guys think”. My mom and dad both look at each other and respond in.

“ This is your choice, I can not choice it for you but what me and dad think is to have your legs get paralyzed”.

I thought in my mind about what will happen if I choose any of them. I decided that I will have my legs paralyzed. Ashley was standing patinely in the corner, then she asked me

“ Would you like anytime to think”

I responded in a soft voice “ The best to do is paralyze my legs even though I don’t want

Most days I came home to an empty house but I learned to care for myself and I grew up, maybe before I was ready. Friends, sports, hobbies, school and work consumed most of my time. One of my best friends was a boy named Jacob, who pushed me to enroll in the most challenging classes and make the best grades possible. We were competitive, but we both wanted each other to do the best imaginable in everything. Every chance I had, I spent it with him and his family. An empty house no longer consumed my afternoons. Mid sophomore year, Jacob died in a car crash, a car that I almost got into. My world seemed over, including my grades, as if I needed him to make the marks I had before. Returning to the grades and personality that I had before seemed somewhat impossible. However, I knew there was a reason that I did not get into that car that day, I had a purpose. Life seemed to be full of gaps, yet God began to fill them. To this day, every test I take, everything I do, I imagine both Jacob and my father sitting beside me, telling me to live out my purpose, whatever it may be. My top competitor was gone, but I gained an angel that day, one who is by my side in everything I do. Although there existed a period that I struggled, I overcame…

Life was going to dramatically change as the nurses rolled me into the operating room. Back surgery is an invasive operation as it is, but imagine it in the eyes of a thirteen-year-old girl. The surgeons explained the procedure as a spinal fusion, with titanium rods placed along both sides of my spine for stability. This procedure would correct my scoliosis. Afterward, the pain was more than anyone should endure. I was not allowed to twist or bend, and I was unable to dress myself, or leave the house alone. This was difficult to accept, as I didn’t want to become dependent upon others.…

“Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disease of the human brain that is characterized by impairment of memory and a disturbance in at least one other thinking function” (Bronstein & Pulst, 2003). When we hear about Alzheimer’s disease we automatically think of older people. This is because this disease most often occurs in adults after the age of 65. Statistics show that one in eight individuals will have Alzheimer’s after they reach age 65 (Cavanaugh & Blanchard-Fields, 2002). Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia, which is any medical condition that affects the brain (Cavanaugh & Blanchard-Fields, 2002).…

Adrenaline rushing through my body I had no idea what had just happened. I got up laughing, so were my brothers and cousins, soon as I tried to take a step I feel down, then reality started to set in, my bike pedal had sliced the top of my ankle almost cutting my Achilles tendon. I couldn’t believe what I saw just a big gash on the top of my ankle, I could still see the skin hanging from the bike pedal. Naturally, our body has ways of distracting us from pain, but after a while, it wears off. The pain was unbearable that I couldn’t walk for the next 6 months, and I had to walk on crutches until I could teach myself how to walk again. At times, I felt like I would never be able to walk again leading me to feel depressed about the situation. Wan, Shanwtavious, and Phillip would always have to wait on me everywhere they went because I was always walking slowly on crutches, I know it annoyed all of them after a…

For the next week, I needed help for every little thing. I wasn’t capable of eating solid food, showering by myself, dressing myself or walking alone. My friends would visit me while I was stuck at home. The only person that I wouldn’t let visit me was at the time was my boyfriend because I didn’t want him to see me the way I was even though he said it didn’t matter but to me it did. After that I finally could start physical therapy where I had to do a lot of painful exercises for my legs. I wasn’t allowed to run for a few weeks because if I did I would become paralyzed. When I could finally go back to school, I was made fun of because one of my eyebrows was half gone even though everybody at school knew what had happened to me.…

Growing up I didn’t have the life of a normal kid. Yeah, I played sports, went to school everyday, and struggled with the dilemmas of being an eight year old girl, but on the side I was also attempting to memorize the names and dosages of all of the new medications I was being filled up with. There was so much new information being thrown at me. At the end of my second grade year I was diagnosed with a chronic muscle disease called JDMS, I felt very lost and confused. I didn’t realize it at the time but I was being faced with one of the first and greatest challenges of my lifetime that would shape and mature me into who I am today.…

I told them that I slipped on some black ice. Like Derese, many people were begging to take me down the elevator. If they didn’t ask to take me down the elevator, they asked to help me with my books. It was a hard decision. I finally picked XiXi to carry my books for me since she is in my class. I also told Isabella, Marisa, and Kamela that they could go down the elevator since they were in my class, too. Even in choir, Mr. Deluca asked what happened. I told him how I fell. While everyone else had to stand, Mr. Deluca let me sit. I had to do almost the same thing for 1 month. I was very happy to get my cast off after the 1 month has passed. So in conclusion, that was the story worst day of my…

I tried to get up but I couldn’t move my feet. While the people that were watching the ride was on the phone with the EMT’s, Taylor had called our teacher to let him know that I fell and that they were taking me to the hospital. After she got off the phone with him, she called my mom to let her know what had happened and that I was on my way to the hospital. When the EMT’s got there, they had to carry me down the stairs in a chair. They put me in the back of one of the trucks that they use and took me to the clinic at Kings Island, where they put me into the ambulance and got my teacher to go with me. He had to go since he was the one in charge of me for the day.…
