Personification in this chapter is shown in this chapter when the narrator says what she is doing on the porch. “So she sat on the porch and watched the moon rise. Soon its amber fluid was drenching the earth, and quenching the thirst of the day.” (ch.10, pg. 95) Here Janie is deciding whether or not she should be wary of Tea Cake; their shared love seems too perfect. This tension is also evident in Tea Cake’s name—his proper name, Vergible Woods, reminds readers of Janie’s past relationships with Logan and Joe. The woods, as earlier discussed, prevents Janie from seeing the horizon and finding love. Though his proper name has negative connotations, it is replaced by Tea Cake, an innocent nickname which comes from a sweet French desert. Hurston thus presents a tension in Janie’s mind between Tea Cake being a figure that will shade her from the light of the horizon or, on the other hand, being the love for which she has been searching.…

Paul’s Case is about a boy named Paul. The story takes place in the 19th century steel era. Paul goes to 4 different places. He goes to his home, the theatre where he works, New York, and then New Jersey. Paul doesn’t like his home and he is always fighting with his dad because he doesn’t understand Paul. Paul thinks that the theatre is more of a home to him then his actual home and there are many theatres in New York so he decides to go to New York, not just for the theatres but to also get away from his dad. The story is Person vs. Society because Paul is always getting into trouble and his teachers hate him and are embarrassed and angry that they have a student that behaves like that. Also, his dad is basically against him and he isn’t a supportive guy. In Paul’s Case Cather contrasts imagery of place that reflects Paul’s struggle by describing how Paul feels about each place.…

The Creation story, in particular, the "J" part of it, has two layers. The first one is what is seen on the surface: God playing with mud, not expecting that it would result in anything particular. It is ironic that the very idea to create the man seems to appear unexpectedly and throughout the whole story God seems to be thinking on the spot and greatly enjoying the process He is involved in. Therefore, through a nice story about the creation of Earth and men, the author makes it clear that (1) a man cannot live without a woman, as she is the only one who really suits him, and (2) what really gives joy to manhood is companionship. "The Lord said, "It's not good for the man to be alone."…" (Gen 2: 18).…
