The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games was an amazing book. It was amazing how Suzanne Collins imagination made up Panem, which is the future, ruins of North America and how it was divided up into twelve districts. I liked how each district as you got lower had less wealth but still was very important to the Capital. For example each district had its own specialty that benefited that Capitol, such as coal mining, agriculture, seafood, and other specialties. Some districts provide the Capitol with energy or material goods and some provide the manpower to keep those in the Capitol in power. Some thing I didn’t like in The Hunger Games was how every year the twelve districts had to send two representatives, boy and girl, to participate in the games no matter how old …show more content…
This was a memorable moment in the book because it showed how Katniss had a lot of courage. Another memorable part of the book is at the end when the only two people left are Peeta and Katniss and the Capital says that only one can live. Since either one of them didn’t want to kill the other they both took poisonous berries and as they were about to eat them the Capital yelled from them to stop saying they had both won The Hunger Games. This was a memorable part of the book because it was showing that neither one, Katniss nor Peeta, wanted to die without the other one so they both decided to die together if they had to die. Since the government didn’t want both to die either they declared both tributes as winners of the Hunger …show more content…
Some of they key points my group brought up was memorable moments throughout the book. For example on page 20-23, when Katniss volunteered as a tribute for Prim. We all agreed that this was a very memorable part of the book. Also another memorable part of the book was on page 358 when both Peeta and Katniss won the Hunger Game. We said this was a memorable moment of the book because Katniss and Peeta are from the same district, district 12, and they both had won the Hunger Games. A part of the book we all said we disliked was when Peeta went into a different group going against Katniss. We said we didn’t like this part because he was trying to kill Katniss but in a way he was helping her stay alive too. Some of the themes we discussed are having trust in each other. We said this was a theme because Katniss trusted Peeta not to stab her in the back. Also when they were eating berries Katniss trusted him that they weren’t the poisonous berries. Fire and the mocking jay were main symbols in the book. We said fire was a symbol because when Katniss and Peeta game in to the ceremony presenting themselves for the first time in public and in front of the judges, they were set on fire. We said the mocking jay was another main symbol because it presented defiance and rebellion again the government. Also because before Katniss went into the games her mom gave her a mocking jay pin to wear

The first reason that made Katniss a controversial character by the gamemakers was when she volunteered to take her sister’s place in the hunger games when the capitol called prim’s name during the reaping. Nobody in the crowd (panem’s population) applauded what has happened, and katniss regarded it as a small show of bravery against the capitol that expects the audience (panem’s population) to be excited. “To the everlasting…

Since this is a unit that is focused around The Hunger Games, the reading portion of the lessons is rather obvious, as students need to read and comprehend the book to be successful. They are also asked to read various articles and interpret texts in order to respond thoughtfully and appropriately to discussion and writing topics. Since the reading aspect of language was covered, I tried to focus on the importance of incorporating the remaining three language skills – writing, speaking and listening – while creating this unit. I did this by paying special attention to ensuring that discussion and dialogue were abundant to allow students the opportunity to not only share their own ideas but also…

In Katniss’s mind she is determined to defy the Capitol and make them look ridiculous in the eyes of the entire country. The way the author portrays this scene in the book, proves that this was an act of defiance against the capitol, being that Katniss is not only brave but loyal to her district, and Peeta. Also being an act of survival, Katniss realizes she would rather die with Peeta other than survive and have him dead. They both knew they would not let the other die after they realized there could only be one victor, so they agreed to die together not having to live without the other.…

The Hunger Games trilogy takes place in an unspecified future time, in the totalitarian nation of Panem. The country consists of the wealthy Capitol, located in the Rocky Mountains, and twelve (formerly thirteen) poorer districts ruled by the Capitol. The Capitol is lavishly rich and technologically advanced, but the twelve districts are in varying states of poverty – the trilogy's narrator and protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, lives in District 12, the poorest region of Panem, formerly known as Appalachia, where people regularly die of starvation. As punishment for a past rebellion against the Capitol wherein twelve of the districts were defeated and the thirteenth purportedly destroyed, one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts, between the ages of twelve and eighteen, are selected by lottery to participate in the Hunger Games on an annual basis. The Games are a televised event, with the participants, called "tributes", being forced to fight to the death in a dangerous outdoor arena. The winning tribute and his/her home district are then rewarded with food and supplies. The purpose of the games is to provide entertainment for the Capitol and to serve as a reminder to the Districts of the Capitol's power and lack of remorse. The capitol in my opinion is like the government and the well fair system today.…

How can you stand by and watch those who create evil, continue? This paper will attempt to explain the meaning of Einstein`s quote, along with the ramifications of condoning evil by three distinct characters in The Hunger Games. The characters identified as condoning evil are President Snow, the Peace Keepers, and the Citizens from various Districts. This paper will not only explore the evil nature of these characters; it will also demonstrate how evil is portrayed within their society.…

The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) focuses on the main character Katniss and her journey to revolt against the corrupt power system of her government the capitol. The ‘Hunger Games’ is a way of controlling those in the capitols power. Comparison “All I can think is how unjust the whole thing is, the Hunger Games. Why am I hopping around like some trained dog trying to please people I hate?” communicates how Katniss feels the Capitol is corrupt and there ‘hunger games’ is a way to exert there power over those they control. Like Katnisse’s viewpoint “Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch – this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy” reveals how those oppressed by the capitols power realise that their lives are controlled by the capitol and they have no option…

“Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch– this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy” (Collins, 18). Imagine living in a world where the only source of entertainment is controlled under a totalitarian government. A world where the regimes ideology of “good television” is forcing twenty-four adolescences to fight to the death and the last man standing is the winner. The dark, twisted ideology of The Hunger Games has become a yearly ritual for the citizens who live within the Districts of Panem. The Hunger Games were established because of the uprising of the Districts against the Capitol (Collins, 18). For the past seventy five years, Districts One through Twelve has provided one girl and one boy, called tributes to participate in the brutal tournament (Collins, 18). Many individual from the Districts find these games as a cruel and malicious attempt to seek vengeance from the Districts that had once upraised and rebelled against the Capitol’s order. Though some may feel that the games are appalling, their actions say something completely different. Because of their refusal to challenge or boycott these inhumane games, the morality of Panem as a society seems to be nonexistent when it comes to the lively hood of others in reality television.…
