The holocaust lasted from 1933 - May 8,1945. That is 12 years of torture that many had to go through. Nearly 11 million people in total died and about six thousand of them were Jews. When the holocaust started Hitler made them wear a yellow star which represented David's star which made them stand out like a sore thumb. Not only did Hitler aim at Jews he also wanted the homosexuals, the disabled, and the gypsies dead. Throughout the holocaust there were so many horrible situations that people had to go through, it was insane.
Raoul Wallenberg’s first thing to do was he created a protective Swedish passport. “German and Hungarian bureaucrats had a weakness for symbology, so he had the passports printed in blue and yellow with the Swedish coat of arms in the center.” He managed to get the Hungarian Foreign Ministry to accept 4500 passports. He was eventually caught for these acts and was arrested and was nowhere to be found. The law could not find her but many reported they met him and that he helped them. He was not found for many years and Russia tried to find him for 30 years because they didn't approve of what he did. “Wallenberg’s fate remains an intriguing mystery.” Somehow Wallenberg came in touch with a few survivors that he helped and their stories moved him greatly.
Raoul saved many Jews and he did not only save 100 he saved over 10,000 people. He inspired others to act like him and follow in his steps. Wallenberg had quite a big following because what he was doing was actually working. It is important for us to learn and understand what he did and everything that was happening at that time in history. History can not repeat and that is a huge example of why
