As everyone knows, the second World War was the most widespread and deadliest war in history. In my opinion, the biggest main events in World War II included: The Holocaust, Pearl Harbor, and D-Day. In this era of World War II, it lasted from 1933 to 1945. It involved six major continents, all three of the great oceans on the planet, scores of countries, and billions of people. It caused over 57 million deaths and unimaginable human suffering (“World War II”). The Holocaust is a word of Greek origin meaning “sacrifice of fire.” (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). The Holocaust was taken place when Adolf Hitler was elected as Chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. The German people saw Hitler as a savor who guaranteed to fix
Specifically, Pearl Harbor is located on the south side of the Hawaiian island named Oahu. A attack that lasted about one-hundred and ten minutes started not long after 7:30 A.M. While sailors where sleeping or eating breakfast, the first wave of 189 Japanese planes came down upon Pearl Harbor, dropping groups of torpedo bombs onto the fleet. A little after 8:00 A.M a 1,800 pound bomb shattered through the deck of the battleship USS Arizona which made the ship flip forward. About seven seconds after the bomb hit; a cataclysmic explosion went off from the forward magazines exploding. Destroying the majority of the internals of the ship. Causing the forward turrets and conning tower to come collapsing down in a forward manor from twenty-five or thirty feet high. Ultimately causing tons of weight to be added to the front of the ship to where it broke in the middle. The explosion let alone from the USS Arizona caused fierce fires to burn for two days and debris rained down upon the Ford Island in the surrounding area. In only 90 minutes, the Japanese had inflicted a devastating blow: five battleships were sunk, three cruisers, and three destroyers were damaged, and nearly 200 aircraft were destroyed (HistoryNet). The attack lasted about 2 hours, with a traumatic loss of 2,403 American’s killed and 1,178 injured. This attack on Pearl Harbor was planned as early as January nineteen-forty one. Although, it was not initiated until; Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto commander in chief of Japan’s combined fleet, thought he saw a way to win an impossible war, beginning with a surprise attack on American battleships. Japanese had named the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor as “Operation Hawaii” until they later changed the name to “Operation Z.” The Japanese Naval General Staff wanted to sink battleships also. They thought
