The ancient Egyptians build pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens. The Pharaohs got buried in different pyramids that were specifically built for them. There were many different shapes and sizes from the beginning of the Old Kingdom to the Middle Kingdom. Out of the many pyramids built, three of them were best preserved. The most known are built for the Pharaoh Khufu which was known as the “Great Pyramid.” The sides of the Great Pyramid base average were 755 feet and its original height was 481 feet tall making it the biggest pyramid on earth. It took about 2.3 million blocks of stone that had to be cut, transported and assembled for the Great Pyramid.
