The Great Gatsby Symbolism Analysis

The Great Gatsby (Symbols) Throughout the book “The Great Gatsby”, F. Scott Fitzgerald finds different ways to incorporate symbolism that ties into the different characters and their different relationships with one another. The symbolism that he creates really shows how the american dream is never really possible. The end of the dock is an important place for Gatsby because, that is where he is able to see the green light on the end of Daisy’s dock, yet he can’t reach it. “Involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away”. The green light is described as “minute and far away” because it shows how far away the light is and how Gatsby will never be able to reach it, showing how the love aspect of the american dream is almost unachievable even with the money, in Gatsby’s case.

While the people of the valley whom have love, are looking for money, the people of the city whom have the money are looking for love.
