The Good Shepherd
* John 10:27-28 * “The Good Shepherd”

In every chapter John reveal Jesus true identity. First he give eight of miracles: turning water into wine, healing Nobleman’s son , healing the cripple at Bethesda, feeding 5,000 with 2 fish and five loaves of bread, walking on water, restoring sight to the blind man, raising Lazarus from the dead and after the resurrection given the disciple and overwhelming catch of fish.

Then he move on by describing Jesus title I Am; I Am the Bread of Life, I Am the Gate, I Am Light of the World, I Am the Good Shepherd and I Am the Resurrection and Life. When Jesus used this phrase he affirms his preexistence and external deity.
David wrote out of his own experience because he spent his early years caring for sheep.
Sheep are completely dependent on the shepherd for provision, guidance and protection. That’s the way we should be depending on Jesus for everything. Before we make a move or buy anything seek God first and wait on the answer. Jesus is the good shepherd and we’re his sheep; not dumb, frightened, passive animals, but obedient followers wise enough to follow one who will lead us in the right place and right way. Now we’re told that Jesus was at Jerusalem at the Feast of Dedication and if winter was, the feast was held in commemoration of the restoration of the temple and after its profarmation by Antiochus Epiphanies. Jesus walks in the temple on Solomon’s porch, and the Jews surround him and endeavor to catch him by a question. After answering the question he speaks the word of the text. John10:27-28

I. The Good Shepherd Sheep

There are only two kinds of people mentioned in scripture. Jesus divides the whole world into two classes: Sheep and Goats.

Believers are always compared to something good and profitable, and unbelievers are always described by something that is bad.

    The nobleman besought Jesus that he would heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus said unto him "Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way." His servants met him and confirmed that his son was alive. This sign miracle reveals the deity of Christ because it shows that the power of Christ is not limited by space. This miracle also reveals Christ deity because it manifested the power of his spoken word.…

    The book of John has a narrative Genre. The theme of this book is how God refers to himself as “I am.” The very first verse of the Book says “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) This book talks about how God is working through Jesus to let everyone know his Word. Through the book of Jesus is working miracles such as turning water to wine for a wedding celebration. Long after when Judas brings the soldiers to arrest Jesus, he is quickly put on trial. Pilate he is the Roman governor, and he had no basis to charge Jesus and tried to release him but eventually gave Jesus to the Jews to be crucified at Golgotha. After his death, 3 days later he resurrects from the Tomb telling Mary Magdalene that God has a…

    In the beginning of Christianity at about 70-80 CE, they had a very negative approach toward merchants (Doc. 1). Christianity's shift from a negative view to a positive view is a demonstrated in documents 1, 3, 4, and 6. Document 1 states that no rich man can enter the kingdom of heaven. This is indirectly stating that merchants cheat people and it's not a worthy profession. The author specifically enforces this statement by saying that hypothetically, it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of god. This document also demonstrated bias because it shows the strong dislike for merchants. The author's point of view in this document is evident that merchants were not appreciated nor did they have any value in the society. In contrast, document 3 describes the life of a Christian monk in 1170 and how he brought goods for cheap prices in lands where there was less demand for them and went to places where there was more demand and sold it for a much higher price, thus making a very lucrative profit. This document I different from document 1 because of merchants and trade. Document 3 changes from not allowing merchants in heaven into saying that…

    At their origins, Christians and Muslims had different views about merchants and traders. This can be seen in the first two documents which are excerpts from the holy books of the two faiths. “A rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God“(Document 1, Christian Bible, New Testament.) This excerpt from the document can be clarified as bias because it means for a rich man to enter the presence of god, it is near to impossible—countless people may not believe so and disagree. The Christian bible uses a parable to compare riches to the kingdom of God. Wealth turns into greed and if one is obsessive to riches and has possession of greed, they may not be able to reach heaven. Reginald, monk of Durham and colleague of St. Godric, says not to follow the life if a husbandman, but rather to study, learn and exercise the rudiment of more subtle conceptions. Merchant’s trade is the way of life; learn how to gain in small bargains and thing of insignificant price and to gain from things of greater expense (Document 3, written before the death of St. Godric.) Becoming a merchant means to donate to charity. To be a merchant and to follow Christ more freely, sell possessions and distribute them among the poor, for above all things coveted the life of a hermit; is dedication to god. A Muslim…

    In the New Testament of the Bible, written around 70-80 CE, it is written that Jesus tells his followers that a rich man cannot enter heaven (Document 1). This idea that a rich man cannot enter into heaven directly condemns merchants and supports the initial Christian views of trade. Furthermore, it comes from the founder of Christianity, therefore it is reliable in analyzing the early views of Christians. However, Jesus himself was not a rich man. Most of his followers were not of high social status and likely resented the rich, which would explain their disapproval of merchants. A 12th-century account of the life of St. Godric tells the story of St. Godric’s merchant life. It ends with St. Godric giving up his material possessions and devoting himself to Christianity (Document 3). This piece highlights the opposition of the Christian faith to material gain. However, this was written by a colleague of St. Godric. Furthermore, it was written right before St. Godric’s death. The piece may not be accurate in describing St. Godric. A leading theologian from the 13th century quotes the Bible and the words of a Roman writer to make an argument against merchant techniques (Document 5). He concludes that the way that merchants profit is deceitful and therefore sinful. Again, this shows that Christians do not approve of merchants. Finally, a letter from a mother to her son, a merchant,…

    I work in a supply and demand field. Every day I use my company credit card to purchase products and parts for our company. I also make sure the contracts we purchase are done right and no one is being cheated out of their money. I would have to say that this is one example of how this belief that mankind is created in the image of God affects me. I do not believe in cheated people out of their money and I am a very honest person. Since I do work for the military buying products I constantly get phone calls from vendors wanting me to purchase their products. Sometimes I have to turn my phone off because there are people out there just trying to make a quick sell and the product is not good. The Bible states “Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. "It is written," he said to them," 'My house will be called a house of prayer, ' but you are making it a 'den of robbers. ' " (Matthew 21: 12-13) There are times where I do feel like its chaos and it’s all about money and greed. Working with money and finances can be chaos and that’s when you put your faith in God and pray.…

    Starting with Christology one can start to examine the Gospels of John and Mark, where they agree and disagree. Jesus’ proclamation of his Deity resulted in skepticism as seen in John 5:18, “calling God his own Father, thereby making himself equal to God. Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise”. Jesus tries to explain that even though He claims to have God as his Father and Him being equal to God, He is doing what God is calling him to do. He is doing God’s will and spreading the word of God. Similarly in Mark 2:5, when “Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.’ Now some of the scribes were sitting there questioning and wondering, “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Another instance of the inquiring and searching that a lot of people had towards Jesus’ teachings. Both John and Mark, depict the adversities He had to deal through his journey on Earth. A similar theme that is seen in both gospels is the way Jesus went about his ‘secret’ mission of spreading His divinity can be seen in Mark 5:40, “He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha come, and immediately the girl got up and began to walk about. At this they were overcome with amazement. He strictly ordered…
