The Giver Personal Response

Lois Lowry wrote an award Winning book called "The Giver", the story is based on a dystopian world were no one is able to make their own choices and their emotions are controlled.The story is about a boy named Jonas who is chosen to be a receiver, and receives memories from the Giver. Jonas notices what's happening in the memories and how wonderful some are, but he is also shown the truth behind being released, very very cruel, the way they kill innocent people Jonas just does not like that. Jonas and The Giver decided that everyone in the community needs to know the truth. They made a plan to escape the community and leak the memories, Jonas set off on a journey. This story is about taking risks and making choices, because mostly everyone in the story makes a choice that decides their fate. One risk and critical choice of story is, Jonas decided to leave the community and leak the memories.In the story on pg. 158 it says this " having you here with me over the past year has made me realize that things must change. On pg.169 it clearly states this,"He had stolen his father's bicycle.","but it was necessary because it had the childseat attached to the back. And he had taken Gabriel too." Jonas made the decision to take Gabriel because he knew that Gabe's release date was due the next day, and with his intel he knew that being released was not a good thing. Jonas did this knowing that it would affect his performance on his journey and he knew that Gabe would hold him back a little because he had to worry about taking care of him too.
