The Giver By Lois Lowry Analysis

Imagine a world that no one can see color, can't feel feelings, or doesn’t know what snow is. In the "Giver" made by Lois Lowry, this is true. For the elders, they think that the memories are bad because memories can cause war, famine, sadness, and more. But they are wrong. Memories also contain love, friendship, happiness, courage, and knowledge. When the Elders locked all of the memories into one person everyone lost color except for that one person. They wanted everything to be predictable so they removed many things like hills, animals and other things that are unpredictable so this way everything is sameness. What if every day was the same, wake up, eat, go to work/school, go home, eat, sleep. Life is about not knowing what will happen. That’s why it's better to be fully aware than to be happy and ignorant
Feelings are one of the best things about living but in Jonas world, no one has feelings except for the Receiver. Feelings can teach you a lot of things in life. How can people be prepared for loss, fear, anxiety, etc. if
But when people are not educated correctly or at all the consequences can be terrible. The North Korea citizens listen to a liar now they think that all countries besides Russia, China, and other communist states are evil. Hitler taught many people to hate Jewish and killed over 10 million Jews. But people like George Washington, Henry Tubman, and other activists changed the world by getting rid of slavery, creating a democracy nation, and allow women to have the same rights as men. In Jonas world it’s the same concept. The problem is without knowing what happened in the past, people would do it again. When everyone learned about Hitler and dictatorship, they made laws to make sure this never happens again. When people in Jonas world see war, famine, destruction, and etc. they would try to pretend it from happening
