According to the Department of Education the five University Undergraduate Learning Outcomes (UULOs) describes what UNLV students are expected to capture and be able to do when they graduate (UNLV, 2018). The UULOs provide a meaningful guideline of learning for student throughout their first year, to middle years, to their last year (UNLV,2018). This is special helpful for a student like myself, I am a first-generation college student and my first semester was challenging. I was in a place that was foreign to me, with no one to look up to and my confidence in myself was through the ground. I was overwhelmed and the thought of dropping out crossed my mind often. By far my two favorite classes have been sociology and anthropology because both classes opened my eyes to a different perspective of life. Sociology taught me that life should not be lived with an individualistic mindset meaning that having awareness about ones one society and realizing that no one in this world is alone, that someone somewhere is going through or has gone through what you are going through. I believe that in this specific area I still have a lot to learn and I think this is partly due to the fact I still have not taken a political science course. However, what I have learned are citizenship skills which are beneficial because it is important to be an educated citizen that contributes to the better of the whole. This means having the concern for the right and welfare of others and the tolerance and belief in the ability to make a difference. While I might not be a big fan of politics it is something that every individual should have knowledge about and I am glad that it has been taken into account in the UULOs. (162
