The Easter Vigil: The Holy Year Of Fatima
In the Easter Vigil, the Mother Church solemnly proclaims, "The time is the Lord's." Having faith in the "silver token" of the remaining days of 2017 become sacred and priceless. So, every one of us has moments of inner space to look back at the passing year with many different emotions: regret or gratitude, joy or sorrow, etc. Anyway, we may have one thing in common is to “thank”. Thank God for a year of God's blessings with many ups and downs, many more successful but also no shortage of challenges.
In joy and thanksgiving, God has given the Church a year of celebrating the 100th anniversary of Mary's appearance at Fatima. The Holy year reminds every Christian to live more positively with the message that Our Lady invites through the three

Utilizing the large parcel of land in the front yard and the backyard of the convent, the Sisters built 20 mysteries of the rosary along the fence on both sides. A small lake of “Galilee” was created adding to the beauty and tranquil atmosphere for praying. The Pastor, Rev. Victor KyNam donated St. Joseph icon which was placed at the entrance to welcome the people. All this work cannot be materialized if God's providence does not send to the generous hearts and hands of the friends of Paul. We must mention the youth of the parish of Mary LaVang, in particular, Mr. Vu Dinh, an effective collaborator, who was honorably named the

Altar 8: “…So when you take an object, say a family photograph, and place it in an altar next to a saint, you are basically saying to the saint, ‘Pray for this person…’ (Turner, 96). In this altar there is an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe as the central focus. There are also, some other religious images, such as the one of Jesus (left frame on the wall). Surrounding the image of the Lady of Guadalupe are many portraits of what appear to be family members, particularly babies. The frames with the infants could be grandchildren of the owner and they might be there to be protected by the Lady of Guadalupe, who also happens to be a mother.…

The Rosary is a devotional that derives from the early monastic practice of reciting the 150 psalms daily. When this devotional was adopted by the uneducated lay people of the time simple, easily remembered prayers---such as the Our Father---were substituted for the psalms, the repetition of the words intended to produce a quietude of mind that permitted the faithful to meditate upon the mysteries of the Gospel, focusing on the events of Christ’s life alongside the one who knew Him best: His mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.…

“...I will commence this holy day by writing to you. My heart is filled with gratitude to Almighty God for His unspeakable mercies with which He has blessed us in this day, for those He has granted us from the beginning of life, and particularly for those He has vouchsafed us during the past year. What should have become of us without His crowning help and protection? Oh, if our people would only recognise it and cease from vain self-boasting and adulation, how strong would be my belief in final success and happiness to our country! But what a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbours,…

Ritual enables believers to receive a concrete and dramatic expression to beliefs within social and cultural settings. Rituals use signs, symbols, and vivid actions to raise feelings of belonging and transition. The Mount Alvernia College Diamond Jubilee Mass of 2016, enabled the Mt Alvernia community, Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (MFIC Sisters), parents and teachers to reflect on the 60 years that have passed since the opening of Mount Alvernia College. Unlike prior rituals, like the Build New Community mass from 2015 and monthly themed rituals, Mount Alvernia College amended many symbols, roles, and objects which reflects the ethos, beliefs, values, elements, structure and legacy of the college. The…

Today is our chance to say "thank you" for the way you brightened our lives, even though God granted you but half a life. We will all feel cheated, always, that you were taken from us so young and yet we must learn to be grateful that you came along at all. Only now you are gone do we truly appreciate what we are now without and we want you to know that life without you is very, very difficult. We have all despaired at our loss over the past week and only the strength of the message you gave us through your years of giving has afforded us the strength to move forward.…

To complete my Sacraments of Initiation, I have chosen Saint Cecilia as my patron for Confirmation. Confirmation is a critical stage in my journey of becoming a member of the Catholic church, as well as deepens my Christian commitment. Not only did this name sound beautiful and fit my first and last name nicely, but the individual behind the name captivated me as well. I chose this name because I preferred to be represented by a martyr with such merit and faithfulness to God. As the first Saint to be found incorrupt, St. Cecilia was unique and her frequent praying in spite of the challenges surrounding her is a valuable attribute to admire.…

Ever wonder about the rather weird traditions of Easter? Easter is of course a Christian holiday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Many people will also love to point out Easter’s traditions are taken from Pagan culture. No one really talks about the whole bunny laying and hiding eggs though. No one really wants to talk about how it has nothing to do with Christianity anymore either.…

On April 3, I visited the 9:00 AM mass at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland with my grandma who has been a practicing Catholic her entire life. The church had a very welcoming atmosphere. The church building is somewhat simple, without many of the top decorations. The architecture is simple, and resembles that of many other small churches. There is a steep area of the roof that is a common characteristic of a church's architecture. On the inside there were many rows of pews from the front near the altar to the back. On the altar there was an organ, a large cross, and a hanging, medium-sized stained glass.…
