Athena’s Dominance A famous Greek poet named Homer once wrote, “Her gray eyes clear, the goddess Athena answered, ‘Down from the skies I come to check your rage If only you will yield.’” With intelligence beyond everyone’s years and the graceful ferocity of a lion protecting her territory in battle, may athena’s wisdom forever rain down on mankind from the peak of Mount Olympus. Even though the other gods and goddesses proved to be powerful in their own way, Athena the Maiden Parthenos, Goddess of Wisdom & Battle is superior among the Olympians. Being a great strategist and having wisdom beyond life itself, along with being inspiring to several Greek heroes like Perseus and Odysseus makes Athena the strongest diety of the Olympians. A strength Athena has is the ability to provide great strategies. During the Trojan War, Athena gave Odysseus the strategy to build the Trojan Horse
Being too protective is a weakness for Athena because she is known as the Goddess of the City, protector of civilized life. She protects her city from outside enemies, who threaten the city’s threshold. Another weakness is that she is sometimes prideful. An example of that is when Arachne challenged Athena to a weaving contest. Arachne’s weaving showed the Gods/Goddesses in a disrespectful way, so Athena destroyed her weaving. Out of humiliation, Arachne committed suicide and Athena took pity on her and brought her back to life. As Athena brought her back to life her pride blinded her and she turned Arachne into a spider. Athena’s protectiveness can be a strength because when she protects her city it drives her to fight better. Athena being prideful can also mean that she knows what she’s capable of and she’s confident about her choices. Athena is the strongest Olympian because she turns her weaknesses into strengths that she can use as an
