Author George Moore stated, “The difficulty in life is the choice” he used this to describe the hardships that come with making a demanding choice. When a person has to make a decision he is more often then not changing his life path. One choice can define a man character or destroy everything he stands for. The choice can lead to a life of happiness or the fall of an individual. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Adicus, the narrators father, must make a life changing choice to defend a black man in the 1920s and do what’s right or let the man go to death, allowing his life to be easy. This is not the only choice displayed in literature however in the novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby must choose to follow his heart that tells him to chase his ex lover Daisy Buchanan or move on in life and be free from the hardships of love. The quote by George Moore displays the hardship of making a choice in life and can be proven true in both the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird and its character Atticus as well as the Great Gatsby and its character Jay Gatsby.
In the events that unfold in the Great Gatsby by, F. Scott Fitzgerald it is observable that the choice that Gatsby made was moreover the decision of a life time and difficult to make. Jay Gatsby originally a poor American soldier fell in love with a young old money rich girl name daisy. When returning from the Great War she had married a rich man, Tom Buchanan, leaving Gatsby and her promise to wait for him behind. When Jay got back he had to make a decision to keep pursuing the love that was lost or move on in life and find new love. Gatsby’s decision was not just hard to make but hard to continue. He had to become a rich man in order to be considered by daisy. Not only that but he made the decision to make money quick in what is presumed to be in a dirty way.
