Thomas Jefferson was the president in 1801-1809. He was very important so he has a memorial in Washington DC. A memorial is a statue or something that pays homage to a person. In this case this memorial pays homage or respect to Thomas Jefferson. He was optimistic, hard worker, intelligent, creative, and calm. He did the most to help out.

It was starting being built on December 15, 1938 and it was finished November 15, 1939. The memorial is shaped like the Pantheon.
