Introduction Currently, many businesses change their policy to make their business to become or act like a green business. This trend also becomes popular in the hotel business. There are many reasons that make these businesses active to make change to their business.

What is Environmental Sustainability? (Going Green) Environmental sustainability (going green) is the way to helping to save the world and makes the world to become a better environment. To be going green is to think about environment effect before make an action. Use less resources and do more recycling are also part of helping to save the world through green living. In other words, saving while living with nature and disturb the environment as little as possible. (Save the world, 2009)

    Recycling and waste prevention are two very important ways to help address the issues of the environment concerning climate change. Recycling is a very beneficial factor that more individuals need to exercise in order to improve the environment’s pollution, reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, and save energy and natural resources that are used to produce products from virgin materials rather than from recycled materials, which uses less energy and produces less harmful pollution. Recycling has many benefits that helps improve the earth’s conditions. Waste prevention and recycling are real ways to address these problems and begin to make a change. Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources, reducing the amount of natural resources needed to produce these same products. Collecting your used bottles, cans, and newspapers and taking them to a recycling bin or collection facility is just the first step, in a series of steps that generates a host of financial, environmental, and social returns. These benefits accrue locally as well as globally. Recycling protects and expands United States manufacturing jobs and increases United States competitiveness by creating more recycling jobs and facilities within the United States and producing more of our own products with recycled materials and being less dependent on outside countries and companies for these products.     In the 1970’s, most hoteliers weren’t concerned with environmental conservation or social enhancement programs. The catalyst for change in these attitudes began with a major energy crisis in the United States during the 1970’s which drove up energy prices and limited the spending capabilities of consumers and business owners alike. Due in large part to the limited supply of energy, the hotel industry began employing programs and techniques to reduce their overall energy usage. Though these programs were employed mainly to maintain profitability, they represent the beginning of a significant change in the way hotels are operated to this day. Hoteliers pushed for greater energy efficiency in the interest of cost reduction throughout the 1980’s, but it wasn’t until the early 1990’s that the industry began taking true green initiatives. After the United Nations issued a report on industrial sustainability the hotel industry began deploying their first Corporate Social Responsibility programs focusing on protecting and conserving the environment. In the 2000’s programs that focused on social issues were incorporated into Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives throughout the hotel industry. These programs emphasized the need to help people live better lives by providing education, medical care, and jobs to disenfranchised people across the globe.…
