The Color Purple Psychology

The Color Purple is a well known novel and movie around the world. Throughout this novel there is so many ups and downs that goes on in The Color Purple. The character that stood out most to me was Celie. She was a poor, uneducated, fourteen-year-old black girl living in Georgia.Physical surroundings that shapes Celie Living with her father and her mother being ill Celie was getting beaten and raped by her own father and even having two children from her father but, never did she get to hold them but she could hear their deaths which led her to begin writing letters to god. “Celie starts writing letters to God because her father, Alphonso, beats and rapes her. Alphonso has already impregnated Celie once. Celie gave birth to a girl, whom her
Alphonso brings home a new wife but continues to abuse Celie”.These obstacles is what drove Celie to feel worthless and abandoned by a loved one not only that but her own father.These are the Physical abuses that shapes the psychological aspect in Ceile. Her not being able to have the opportunity to get an education but to sit and be violated by her father and could do anything about it. Cultural surroundings that shape moral traits in Celie not Only does Celie suffer through an abusive alcoholic father and husband but she also had to face the cold prospect of isolation from the black community.“Members of the black community in the Novel The Color Purple band together for spiritual, financial and social support during troubled times in a racist era.The Color Purple focuses on the lives of several African American women who are faced with abuse, violence, and cruelty”.The way that the society was set up played a big part on why the way Celie was being treated the way she was.
