D1 SPEC Oil Catch Can Installation Guide A Notes

This guide was created specifically for anyone wanting to DIY install this specific Just Jap, D1 Spec oil catch can, in a Nissan R33 GTST Series II, RB25DET engine bay. The installation guide addresses the following: • • • • • B Custom aluminum mounting bracket Catch can connections Rocker cover and turbo return connection Hose specifications Fittings specifications The First Steps

The first thing that needs to be done is to throw away the hose, which comes with the catch can. It is neither long enough, flexible enough, or the right size to fit the brass rocker cover / turbo hose connections. The second thing to do is measure the catch can, rocker cover, and turbo connections, and they are listed as follows: • • Catch can connections are 5/8” UNF male thread (this is for the 15mm catch can only) Rocker cover and turbo return connection s are 16.5mm I.D. tube (suitable for ‐10 AN hose and fittings) Oil Catch Can Referenced

The oil catch can referenced in this document, is a square, D1 Spec oil catch can, as presently sold by Just Jap (and others), with 15mm connections.

Installation Methodology

The method of connecting the catch can was discussed with various workshops, and High Performance Imports Magazine tech through JR and Cam. There were five different options to consider, and we decided on the configuration pictured below for the install method, as the best option for the PCV.

Custom Mounting Bracket

To carry out this work, a 300mm x 300mm x 2mm thick polished aluminum sheet is required from your local scrap metal dealer. We picked one piece up for $4. A cardboard shape was created to generally fit the three fixing points on the drivers’ side strut tower. These connection points all suit 6mm dia’ x 15mm UNF high tensile steel bolts, so you will need 3 x bolts and 6 x washers to suit. Tools needed: • • • •
