Against the One-Child Policy

How would you like to give up your son or daughter? Thousands of kids are out there motherless due to the one-child policy. If you only have one child, they might get lonely. Because men are the ones to usually do work, most people only want boys. This means there are a lot more boys than girls. If you decide to pay fines up for a second child, they will most likely end up with bad health care. Though this policy was very successful, it is still a horrible idea.

Even though many people think it would be fun to be an only child, there are many kids that are lonely. Most out there wish for siblings, though their parents can’t afford it. The article stated, “Xiao Xuan wished she had a brother or sister to share the attention with.” Xiao Xuan is lonely and needs someone to play with. This proves that kids need to have siblings.

Common for girls, it’s frustrating when boys get more respect. Most people infer that boys are stronger, better workers, so most give up girls and keep the boys. In the video the man said, “Most prefer

In Sandra Cisneros’ book, “The House on Mango Street,” Cisneros writes that, “the boys and girls live in different worlds” (Cisneros 8). There are only so many ways one could translate this sentence, and one of the meanings that can be deduced is that boys and girls are treated differently. This idea holds true today, but the gap between what people think boys can do and what people think girls can do has become smaller over the past years. But still, there are some prejudices left, things like girls can’t be faster/smarter/stronger than guys. Ideas such as, “you can't hit a girl,” and the phrases, “you hit/punch/run like a girl,” have not helped to heal the gap that still lives today.…

He argues that most girls are doing way far worse than boys .furthermore; he explains that Black male and Latino learners are disrespected and disregarded at colleges and universities. Likewise, African, American and Latina women are also under respected this is because of construction of masculinity. He argues that the boys aspire some form of construction of masculinity that drives them to behave in a weird and unexpected manner toward girls. However, he does not condemn the boy for having such behaviors. He argues that the streets are to blame since they offer the male adolescents an alternative method and routes towards manhood. This leaves them with no other option but to develop masculinity to survive and penetrate through the streets’ corners. As a result, the male adolescent boys ends up defending themselves from rival gangs earn their living through illegal activities and show masculinity to achieve their…

“Molly Zhang, a 31-year-old account manager in the lighting industry, just had her second son. Now she has to pay a fine likely to total 30,000 yuan ($4,760), roughly equal to her annual salary, for violating China's one-child policy.” This is the harsh reality of people in china that are choosing to have more children without falling into the criteria China’s government has set to allow having more children. Such as ethnic minorities, who have always been able to have more than one child. For example in the event that a farming family has a girl for their first child, they are permitted to have a second child. These inconsistencies in the policy is why many have been calling for its abolishment from the beginning. (Roberts,…

    Gender Roles

Society has many expectations on men; men are supposed to be brave and stronger than woman. An article on The Social Roles of Men and Women states “It is not enough for a man to be male; he also has to appear masculine.” People believe that men should be bold, strong, and powerful but that’s not always the case. Men should act the way they want! Just because society or their parents expect them to be masculine doesn’t mean they have to. Another example from The Social Roles of Men and Women adds “Traditionally, fathers teach boys how to fix and build things.” I’m sure everyone expects men to teach their sons how to fix or build things. Some fathers don’t even follow this concept with their sons. Sometimes when these kids grow up and don’t know how to build or fix things there are looked at differently as if they are worthless. Moreover from a different article Gender and Society says "Men have always been afraid that women could get along without them." This quote is basically stating that men think that women can live without them, when in reality they can. Men are afraid of this because they believe that women should stay home, keep the house clean and have dinner waiting for them once they come back from work. Men shouldn’t be afraid that women can be independent; I think it’s great that women can be independent and not rely on anyone but themselves.…

Could you imagine your leader making up rules about your family? It seems impossible and inhumane, but this is exactly what they are doing in China. China implemented a “one child policy” in the late 1970s in response to a growing crisis created by rapidly exploding population growth (Piper). Essentially the one child policy is not a law but enforced with punishments. This policy allows families to only have one child. Of course in every policy comes something good and something bad.…

What is respect? Respect is where you feel a strong way towards someone or something. To show respect one must show admiration, or show they care. But, today, respect is something a lot of individuals don’t know anything about. Females are always referred to as “bitches” and “hos” by males. They are called various of disrespectful names. Women and even young girls are always a target when it comes to disrespect. If someone is a woman living in today’s world odds are they’ve been disrespected or they’ve experienced a situation where they were treated differently because they are a female. Rather it be by a male or female, they’ve been there. For some reason, women have always been imaged as weaker by men. The way the world views women must…

Another conflict that resulted from this policy was the male to female ratio “Most notably, the country’s overall sex ratio became skewed toward males—roughly between 3 and 4 percent more males than females. Traditionally, male children (especially firstborn) have been preferred—particularly in rural areas—as sons inherit the family name and property and are responsible for the care of elderly parents”(Pletcher, One-child policy). The one-child policy generated many issues for families living in China. Other than just the populations containing more males than females, many families that had female offspring were required to put them into orphanages or simply abandon them. Another very harsh consequence of this policy were…
