the Alchemist character analysis

In The Alchemist, Santiago is a young shepherd from a small town and has a dream about a treasure. He sells all his sheep and went in search of the treasure. Santiago is determined, courageous and curious to learn new things. As he follows his dream, he experiences a lot of difficulties, but also he learns a lot. If Santiago doesn’t possess these traits, he would never be able to fulfill his dream.

Determination is one of the strongest traits that Santiago possesses. As a result, his parents want him to become a priest, but ever since he was a child, he wanted to know the world. So he is determined to choose to work as a shepherd when he grows up, so that he could travel around the world. As he becomes a shepherd, he enjoys being together with his sheep and tries his best to be a good shepherd. His determination also shows when he pursues his personal legend which he saw in his dream. He goes to the Pyramids in Egypt to find a treasure. Also, he is determined to work in the crystal shop to make money to continue his journey. Santiago’s determination makes him to try his hardest to fulfill his dream and Personal legend.

Santiago is courageous when he faces all the difficulties on the way of finding his Personal Legend. Not only he has a dream and it also takes courage for him to follow his dream. He shows his courage many different ways throughout the story. When Santiago is robbed all of his money in the bar in Tangier, he doesn’t give up his dream and he has courage to continue follow his dream. His courage also shows when he goes to tell the chieftain that the village would be attacked, but chieftain doesn’t believe him. If this did not happen they will kill him. Also, his courage shows when he risks his life for others. Also during Santiago’s journey, he finds his own Personal Legend what he is destined to do in life. He realizes that he must have courage and overcome all the obstacles; His courage defeats his fear of failure, so that he could get to
