Ted Talk Dame Ellen Macarthur Analysis

In this Ted talk Dame Ellen MacArthur tells about how she sailed around the world solo in record time and what she learned from it. When she was young she always had a passion for sailboats, this lead her to her hobby of sailing. After the vet school she went to said she wasn’t going to be able to pass her class she decided to start sailing for a living. Her goal of sailing around the world the fastest happened when she was 24 but at that time someone else recently beat the record as well so she had to try and beat the new record that was set. On the way she learned that not all her supplies where going to last if she hadnt planned out before the trip. She went on to beat the record but after that she wanted to learn more about the world economy
She wondered what would happen if we ran out of these materials and noted that since we buy so much materials it’s like we are buying our self more time to use them for our own good. What she also noticed is how this makes the economy unstable since higher prices means not everyone can afford them since they don’t have the money. She said that the economy can’t be fixed in the state it’s at but from her previous experiences she notes that when she was sailing she had to compensate for what she had and that the global economy should do the same because it is doing the same thing she did while sailing, going in a straight line and not making any changes but it should instead become a circular economy. A circular economy would use things and reuse them again instead of having to keep getting more and more. She has stated a foundation to get this idea out to the globe and hopefully impact it as well. If we can change how we use our economy we could change our future and its
