INTRODUCTION ON MVAT
This Act may be called the Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act, 2002. Maharashtra Value Added Tax (Levy and Amendment) Act, 2005.
The system of Value Added Tax (VAT) has been implemented, in the State of Maharashtra, w.e.f. 1st April, 2005
An Act to consolidate and amend the laws relating to the levy and collection of tax on the sale or purchase of certain goods in the State of Maharashtra.
Whereas it is expedient to consolidate and amend the laws relating to the levy and collection of tax on the sale or purchase of certain goods in the State of Maharashtra.
It extends to the whole of the State of Maharashtra.
It has been introduced with effect on 1st April, 2005 but the original bill was passed in the year 2002.
Due to political reasons its implementation was postponed.
Maharashtra value added tax, 2002 is nothing but VAT (value added tax).
