STUDENT NOTES

1. It is important to read the information carefully. 2. You must include relevant accounting terms and conventions and apply them appropriately in your report. 3. Direction words in questions: Report: Your answer must be in a report format [see below].

A short formal report includes: An introduction A summary of the contents and intention of the report. What are your reasons for writing the report? (An introduction should include no more than 15 – 20% of the total word count). Main body Both qualitative and quantitative information should be included here. It is important for you to be objective and concise but making sure you include all of the important information. The reader needs all the facts to be able to make an informed decision or be clear as to why you have raised certain points. Conclusion and recommendations Do not include new information here. You are required to bring the report to a conclusion and make recommendations.

Appendices If you find additional information that you think would help support your findings, for example newspaper articles or journals, you should include the material under appendices. The information should be included at the back of the report and is not counted towards the total word count. Your report should be addressed to the recipient and be dated.

4. If you use direct quotes from the Information Text, the textbook, other books/articles/newspapers and websites. However, if you do, you MUST use in-text citations.
