In the book Taming of the Shrew appearance versus reality was one of the main themes, especially between Kate the young sharp tongued shrew and Petruchio a clever fortune seeking man who is a minor image of his wife Kate. Whereas Kate is known in the town of Padua as being a mean shrew to everyone, her husband Petruchio however acts one way in front of everyone but acts differently to his wife Kate. For instance starving her and denning her any sleep since they got to his house from their wedding. In addition to beating his servant Grumio and Kate defending him. Petruchios behavior on the other hand is far worse than Kate's’ behavior.
