Kill
In the book “Killing Mr. Griffin” written by Lois Duncan, there is a character named Mark and here’s a few of his attributes; He’s quiet, a leader, and he is pretty calm. Mark doesn’t talk unless he feels like what he has to say is important. He doesn’t even tell him family he’s leaving to school or answer any of his aunt’s questions. “Jeff came by for him earlier than usual this morning. He was honking the car horn out there at seven-thirty and Mark was out the door before I could even ask him if he’ll be home for dinner.” Throughout the rest of the book it shows he doesn’t talk a whole lot. Mark is the leader of the gang of main characters in this story. Everyone listens to everything he says and do whatever he tells

In the story “The Man Killed” By Tim O’Brien, the narrator stares in silence at the man he has just murdered. He imagines all sorts of things and describes every part of him, from the blood running out of his wounds to his dainty long fingers. He, then starts telling us about his life and visualizes his past, present and future. The narrator envisions this man of My Khe as a scholar, not a fighter; he believes he is someone who went to war only to fulfill his patriotic duty. During this whole time, O’Brien never really speaks, and the silent is broken by two of O’Brien’s fellow soldiers. First Azar speaks, his apathetic ways are much too cruel, since he compares the soldier to shredded cereal, this also shows he feels pleasure from the man’s death. The second voice is from Kiowa, who in fact sympathizes wit O’Brien but still urges him to move on and tries to make him see that the young soldier’s death was necessary, because if he hadn’t killed him, O’Brien would have been the one…

Mark thinks that he is able to "keep it separate" but the novel demonstrates how Mark tries, but inevitably his subconscious is unable to "keep it separate". Mark's father is a former Marine who has also been scarred by war. He understands that war "affects you, it never stops affecting you." At the time Mark believes that he is fine, he had looked his father in the eye and said "it doesn't affect me." While trying to "keep it separate", Mark resorts to a range of protective behaviours. Joaquin refers to the camera as "a very convenient device for placing distance between oneself and one's surroundings." For Mark the camera acts as a shield between reality and him, he even admits "you kind of forget that what's happening in front of you is real." When Mark is in Harir Cave he is directly involved, "without your camera, it's not so easy." Talzani is referring to the fact that when you are apart of the war, when you are not just standing behind the camera shooting, when you are not separated by the camera, it is very different, and hard to deal with. When Mark has parties and get-togethers with his fellow war photographers they never talk about their experiences at war, they only talk about how the photos turn out and technical things. In some ways, not talking about it is a way for Mark to "keep it separate." Throughout the novel, Anderson often brings up the photographers drinking. When Elena asks David…
