Symbolism In A Clean Well Lighted Place

The older waiter in “A Clean Well Lighted Place” takes the lords prayer and inserts the Spanish word “Nada”, meaning nothing in place of certain words. He interprets in way’s such as “Our nada who art in nada, nada be thy name thy kingdom nada thy will be nada in nada as it is in nada”. In doing this he takes words such as heaven, father, and hallow out of the lords prayer. The lords prayer is all about praising the lord of course, but also it tells us that we should go out in the world and care for each other as the lord cares for us. In taking such word’s as father and heaven out of the lords prayer its as if the older waiter is implying that none of this matters. Almost implying he doesn't believe in heaven or a greater power.
