Steve Jobs: His Desired Attributes

Steve Jobs is considered one of most successful men in our nation’s history. He is recognized most famously for the establishment of the company “Apple” and given credit for creating and perfecting the’ Smart Phone”. Someone like myself entering into the real world you find yourself looking for the best possible root to achieving your definition of “success”. Many people through time have measured ones “success” by the volume of their bank account and others define success by the intrinsic values of a profession in which usually means a smaller bank account. So as a young man on the brink of penetrating into the real world bubble in only a few short years, I find myself asking the very question, “What is my definition of success? Do I wish for the bank account of Henry Ford or to give back to my fellow man like India’s Gandhi?
As I search for the path to take, I find myself wondering how does one achieve success despite the desired conclusion; how? One may say luck is behind the magnitude of one’s success, others say education is the key to a stable and prosperous future but every year millions of students and individual’s inherent fortunes or gain a degree and never amount or obtain their desired conclusion. The question remains what are these “successful individuals” doing to achieve their goals? As I read through the copious amount of text on the man kinds list of successful I find myself finding a common between these men and woman. It is not in the shape of an Ivy League diploma or a tremendous inheritance but something more intrinsic, and attribute in which some label as ignorance or stupidity, its called courage. Throughout Henry Ford’s life he faced many different obstacles some small, some big and some seeming unsurpassable. If there is one attribute in which I admire most in Steve Jobs is his courage. Steve’s courage to stray from the

    1. Genesis - For this book, I believe that Kingsolver chose to name it ‘Genesis’ because it foreshadows what is going to happen in this section of the novel. In Genesis, this is where God creates this new world. Essentially, this is what the Price family is doing on their expedition in Africa. They’re doing this by bringing all these modern things, and opening their eyes to thing that they’ve never noticed before, for example, when Mr. Price explained how nudity was a bad thing; “But Father skipped over all that and went straight to the dire consequences: ‘The emissaries of the Lord smote the sinners, who had come heedless to the sight of God, heedless in their nakedness.’” (37). Also, in Genesis, God warns Adam and Eve to not eat from the tree, however they ignore his word and do so anyways, which ended in severely bad consequences. The same thing happens to Reverend Price, for when Mama Tataba warned him that the Poisonwood Tree would “bite,” he ignored it, and the next day his arms and hands were covered in a painful rash, and his eye was swollen shut as well. “‘That one, brother, he bite,’ she said, pointing her knuckly hand at a small tree he was wresting from his garden plot. … My father woke up the next morning with a horrible rash on his hands and arms… Even his good right eye was swollen shut,…” (39-40).…

In Everything by Murs, he constantly makes references and alludes to the Bible. He does this by stating things that most people know about the story of Jesus Christ and the Bible’s basic teachings. “I take everything, Your hopes and your dreams and your hate and your lies, Oooh oooh oooh, in this life, I'll join everyone, From the old and the wise to the young, stay fly, When I die,” sings Murs. I believe that when he says this, he is talking about how God sent down his own son Jesus and how he died for our sins by sacrificing himself on the cross. Another example of him making an allusion to the Bible and or Torah is when he says,”God is love, Then hatin' is Satan.” He is saying that God is love, or good, and hatin’ is Satin, or Satin is bad; But as far as poetic devices go, he does not only use allusion, he also uses a lot of colloquialism such as, “sittin'…waitin'…smilin'.” This could have been caused by multiple things considering he grew up in the streets of San Fransisco and did not get much of a formal education other than rarely being home schooled. All in all Murs in not only a rapper when it comes to his music, he is a poet, and unlike most, his songs have meaning and do not just talk about getting money and doing drugs like most modern rappers who make the genre of rap frowned upon by so…

Courage can be defined in many different ways. Courage, according to Atticus, is showing no fear to the people or obstacles that stand in your path. An example of emotional courage is when Atticus shoots Tim Johnson. In my opinion, it takes a strong man to be able to shoot a dog. An example of physical courage is when Jem slices the tops off of every camellia bush in Ms. Duboses' garden. In my opinion, it takes a lot of courage to be able to stand in a ladies yard (who is rumored to have a CSA pistol) and simply slice away at her prize posessions. It is stated that "Jem did not begin to calm down until he had cut the tops off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose owned." (Lee 137) This shows that Jem was slicing away at the bushes, showing no fear.…

Belonging is significant to everyone because it makes us who we are and it gives a certain connection towards places and people. In the two poems ‘Migrant Hostel’ and ‘St Patrick’s College’ by Peter Skrzynecki not belonging is explored which leads to the individual not expanding or deepening their understanding of themselves and the world. In the short film ‘Missing Her’ by Michael Weisler, the individual starts with themselves not belonging and by the end, they begin to find a sense of belonging which develops their understanding of themselves and their world.…

Sharing Blakely's opinion on perseverance, Steve Jobs reminds us that the key of success in life is continuing to come back and keep going. It is easy to look at successful business people and assume their fame and money came overnight, with no particular effort or failure, yet, rarely is that the case. By the time these "overnight" successes come to our attention, they have usually put in years or even decades of long, hard and dedicated work.…

Success is mostly recognized by the person who succeeds, but most do not realize the factors that upturn someone to great success. A well-presented book of people conquering success is, Outliers: The Story of Success, written by Malcolm Gladwell, lists prime examples of what it takes to be a true Outlier. An Outlier is someone that is above normal and achieves success beyond the regular. Gladwell demonstrates that almost all of society’s success stories are a paradigm: a pattern of fortunate events. Realizing that maybe we should be more aware of the paradigm of success in our world. Our perspective over the years have been that people complete success on their own, however, success has other driven forces. A true outlier does not obtain random…
