One of the things Sal loved the most in Bybanks was the singing tree. In the story, Sal heard a the warbling from a bird in the trees at a hospital. She liked the sound that the bird was making and she instantly thought of the singing tree back in Bybanks. When Sal was younger, she had lived on a farm in Bybanks. One day on that farm, she walked by a tree that had sung the most beautiful birdsong. Every time she visited that tree, it made her happy. There are many thoughts and theories behind the methods used to teach music. Three methods used by educators in teaching music are: the Orff approach, the Kodaly approach, and Dalcroze Eurhythmics. All three share the belief that music is essential to the total education of the child. Essentially, each approach strives to broaden the musical horizons of students as they have meaningful experiences with and about music.
