Fahrenheit 451 Characters

Guy Montag- Montag was a fireman who wanted to find a meaning to life. His attitude about life and society suddenly changed after meeting Clarisse. Also, he didn’t think before he acted and this got him into some trouble. He didn’t understand why he had to burn books. Montag saved some of the books he was supposed to burn and this was completely against the law. He was eventually caught and had to go on the run so that he was not put in jail.
Clarisse McClellan- Clarisse was a seventeen year old girl who inspired Montag to want a better understanding of life. She didn’t have any friends and was un-liked because she thought differently than other people. Her family acted the same way as she did. Clarisse was a very curious person and she and Montag had very many conversations.
Mildred Montag- Mildred was Montag’s wife. She didn’t care anything about understanding life or books. Montag couldn’t talk to her about anything. She was very immature and distant. Mildred showed no emotion and was the one that turned Montag in to the fire department. She was obsessed with watching their huge TV. Her only attachment was the family in the soap opera she watched. Mildred didn’t even say anything to Montag when he came back to their house and had to burn it.
Captain Beatty- Beatty was Montag’s captain at the fire department. He was very smart and knows a lot. Montag couldn’t hide anything from him. Beatty was the leader of book burning but he knew so much about the books. Therefore at some point in his life he had a great interest in books. In the end he forces Montag to burn his books and his home. Montag then burned him and he made no attempt to try and stop Montag.
Faber- Faber was an elderly professor who Montag went to for help. He owned some books too. By using a little radio Faber helped Montag with Beatty and helped him do things that Faber wish he had more courage to do himself. Also, Faber tried to
