Imagine this. You’ve just moved to a whole new country where nothing is familiar to you. You will love it! You have an amazing new teacher and a great home! But all of a sudden there is a war! You're scared and have no clue what will happen. This is what happens to Yolanda in the story “Snow” by Julia Alvarez. After reading “Snow”, it was clear the author's word choices developed the tone from comfort to scared to hopeful. You can see the comforting tone through Alvarez’ word choice.     The overall structure and plot of the story plays a part in how Wolff viewed his own life within the characters. It opens with a simple yet intriguing statement: "Tub had been waiting for an hour in the falling snow" (Wolff 1).
