The first fallacy she used was Red Herring, this is when the arguer redirects the subject to another issue. Kellyanne use this fallacy by saying “Do you think it is a fact that we spend billions of dollars on education in the last eight years only to have millions of kids still stuck in schools that fail them every day”. This information was so off topic and irrelevant to the situation. Todd Chuck replies “I understand this, but I dint understand that this is not what yesterday was about”. The second fallacy used by Kellyanne was Ad Hominem/Personal Attack. In this fallacy, a person makes abusive remarks

In the article “5 Reasons to Oppose Betsy DeVos”, author Lisette Partelow works to create further opposition to President Trump’s controversial education secretary. The central claim of the entire article is that Betsy Devos should not be in charge of the Department of Education. She clearly states this early on in the article, even in the title. She begins the substance of the article by saying it is not very difficult to see why DeVos would be a bad education secretary. She makes her personal bias very clear. Partelow writes that DeVos’s agenda will be “insidiously destructive”. Right away, the diction used by Partelow would likely dissuade people who support DeVos and Trump from being open to considering the arguments presented.…

One of the fallacies used is the Ad Misericordiam. Malkin has used words and phrases that made it seem like Obama was a bully. She has used phrases like “Barack Obama's election-year goon squad kicked into high gear this week by kicking the president's fiercest opponents in the teeth and targeting their pocketbooks.” This made the opponents seem like victims by making the viewer feel pity for them without having thorough evidence to make this claim true. Without any evidence, it just becomes a ploy to sully the image of the president.…

Another example was told in his autobiography, “Gifted Hands.” Mr. Carson claimed that when he was at Yale University he took a class called Perceptions 301. On the final exam paper for the class, all the students were required to retake the exam, because of a fire that burned the initial exams. Reporters were able to find information from the Yale Liberian Claryn Spies stating that there was never a class called Perceptions 301. The third type of propaganda located in Bush’s speech is one that Miller named transfer. Miller defines transfer as “[carrying] over the authority, sanction, and prestige of something we respect and revere to something he would have us accept”. (). Bush transferred over the power of defense to Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania (33). Bush made a man who was a military veteran, an effective governor, as well as a true patriot. They were all pointless characteristics really to the American people. Anyone could be a patriot anyone can be a veteran. Bush tried to transfer the power to a man whom we truly do not know if he is qualified enough to run a defense. The American people can be fully angered by this decision especially in the fact that he is a…

Phillip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” introduces a new twist on the old villainess character to the world of fiction. Mrs. Marisa Coulter is an almost purely evil character. Despite her charming and persuasive demeanor, Mrs. Coulter is the greediest, most power-hungry character in the trilogy. In Pullman’s world, every human has a daemon—a visible version of the soul that takes on an animal form. Mrs. Coulter’s daemon, a vicious little golden monkey, reflects its owner’s personality. “Only a few seconds, and the monkey had overmastered him: with one fierce black paw around his throat and his black paws gripping the polecat’s lower limbs, he took one of Pantalaimon’s ears in his other paw and pulled as if he intended…

“Cruz. Eva Cruz is the name,” It was May 22, 2030 a sunny day outside in West Point, NE. The day lives would change forever and really begin. “Sorry for thy tardiness.” Eva had spent three hours getting ready for her High School reunion, Class of 2020. She was wearing an open back dress. The dress was black with gold lining on the sides in a delicate way. Her heels were a bright iridescent gold. Eva did not look like her eighteen year old self no more. She was healthy and grown up. Ten years, Eva thought to herself. Ten long years, since Eva had seen anyone from her high school class. The Dicto Simpliciter Fallacy is and argument based on an unqualified generalization. Contradictory Premises fallacy is when the premises of an argument contradict each other. Ad Misericoriam I thought was a little like Red Herring (aka Straw Man). In the story the author gave an example of how a man went for a job interview, and when asked for his qualifications, he gave him a sympathy speech. It was almost like he avoided the subject at hand. The next fallacy, Hypothesis Contrary to Fact, is when you have an untrue hypothesis and then supportable conclusions are drawn from this false hypothesis. The last fallacy learned in the story was Poisoning the Well. This was like making a generalization before anything has even happened for you to assume that.…
