In Defense of the Poor Image by Hito Steyerl
According to the article, “In defense of the Poor Image”, author Hito Steyerl describes about the poor images. On the first paragraph, Steyerl says, “The poor image is a copy in motion. Its quality is bad, its resolution substandard. As it accelerates, it deteriorates. It is a ghost of an image, a preview, a thumbnail, an errant idea, an itinerant image distributed for free, squeezed through slow digital connections, compressed, reproduced, ripped, remixed, as well as copied and pasted into other channels of distribution.” In other words, the poor image is a low quality and unclear view. Because it is low resolution, people can share over the Internet easy; therefore, it’s usually free stuff.
From the article, author also mentions the the economy of poor images. He states the poor images is from download. In the current time, a lot film is easy available online for people download, so they can keep the file or re-edit it if they want to. It reduces the quality of it. It will cut down the quality of the file. Moreover, I came from Vietnam, a country doesn’t have strong protect on copyright law, so download file seems normal for everybody. There are many store that doesn't sell the original disk. Most produces are download from the Internet or copy from other version. It became a tradition and cannot change it. Therefore, almost every Vietnamese people haven't seen a good quality image. All the produce that they see from DVD or CD are low quality and poor image. Also, I believe that the Vietnamese people doesn't care about the quality of produce, but they are more looking the theme and idea of quality. For example, they can enjoy watch a movie with very low quality image, but they cannot watch a movie that has very poor story or
